    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Well it isn't...... yet!

Got the '06 TE610 in at the Husky dealer getting the timing chain replaced and I get a call this afternoon saying that the glue that holds the magnets onto the flywheel is starting to come off. He found some in the bottom of the motor after he pulled the (very tight) flywheel off.

Hmmm, this doesn't sound good.
There's no fix for it except replacing the A$900 flywheel

I could leave it but it could get bad if a magnet does come off...... IF!

Now i'm flat out paying for the time chain job let alone twice as much for an extra part.
Do i have any options?
He didn't say the magnets where loose, only that he found glue....

I need to make a decision tomorrow as i need the bike back ASAP and they can get me a new flywheel in a day.
What's your spin on things?

So far we have seen alot of this on 2006 bikes but never had any further complications or magnets ever come loose,maybe others have? but we sold and service alot of these and havent seen it.I would run it.billf
 
Haven't seen it myself. I recall reading somewhere that some flywheels have excess adhesives which eventually flakes off and gets trapped by one of the screen filters. This is probably what your mechanic is seeing. The adhesive that matters is sandwiched between the flywheel and the magnet and if this is separating into the sump then there is already big trouble.
I'd ask the dealer to have a good look at the part for any signs of delamination and if none to put it back together.
 
Yeah guys i went in to get a visual on the flywheel and found that it was just the glue on the sides of the magnets that was coming off. Nothing wrong with the magnets delaminating at all. Had to roll my eyes at them.
I told them to fit it back in and i'll take the risk :)
I'm happy with that.
 
I'll second that.. mine had plenty of that tan glue flake off, because they globbed too much on the outside edge of the magnets. That glue was never holding anything. I worried a little about larger bits of glue clogging an oil passage, but the glue that came off was crunched up about like large grains of sand that ended up in the left mesh filter.
