  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I was wondering if anyone is running this on a 510 or 450. I love my husky with the exhaust open but the quiet core makes a huge difference on low end power Im looking for more flow with less restriction. FMF says the Q4 runs around 94-95 dB. How loud is the stock quiet core comparatively. Any experience with the pipe please share.

I'm running the Q on my '09 TE450, definately quieter than the stock setup and still makes good power, actually sounds better than the stocker, not so tinny, more thump if that even makes sense.

I put an FMF Q4 on a customers bike and both of us were posititive that the Q4 was louder than the stock muffler (which is too loud).

The Leo VInce X3 is the only muffler that is noticeably quieter but it is crazy expensive as it is Ti.

Did the Q4 have the "quiet core insert" installed. I know sometimes quiet inserts don't really do what they are supposed to do (yoshimura)- but would be hopeful that it would make a difference with the FMF.

I had thought that if I ruined my Arrow somehow- I'd replace with a FMF because they have various inserts that I could use- such as having one below 96db per standarized tests.
Thanks,
b

I had exactly the opposite results, the stock can with the cat removed on my '09 TE was too loud IMO, the Q definately seems quieter on my bike. Also seems quieter than the "power up" can on NAGA's '08 TXC 450, of course these results are by the human ear method which is not scientific. Part of sound issue with the Arrow is that damn rattling sparky which is just plain annoying. I was sound tested once at an event and passed, I don't know what it was except for under 96db. I didn't re-map so to speak because I installed the PCV at the same time. Someone on here posted the db results with different setups including the Q and the Q I think was actually 1db louder than the stocker but I dont know if that was with the cat removed or not. My '05 TE with the stock can is definately quieter than my '09 in all ways but back then people complained they were too choked up from the factory, me, I like quieter so I've left the stock exhaust on it.
