• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Folan (2x Husky 500cc)

The story behind it from Folans web site

-
Folan AB was founded 1982 by Professor Fredy Olsson and Lars Nilsson to develop combustion engines for small volume markets. The first project to become a product was an engine developed to replace the Yamaha 750s in sidecar motocross. While the Yamaha was a tuned 4-stroke street engine the Folan was a 1000cc 2-stroke twin , now including gearbox. Cylinders came from Husqvarna 500cc motocross engine, and Development Engineer Urban Larsson at Husqvarna followed the project.

The water cooled one is a beast, I know where to find one that is for sale.
I like the air cooled better, it has a rougher look and the "pinging sound" from the "fins" are quite something :D

Sorry but I didn't take a picture of the whole bike, was just interested in the motor. :excuseme:

Man I'd love to have one of those in the garage to drag out every now and then and scare the crap out of all my friends. :jawdrop:

That's a rare one

I knew they built a few two wheel bikes with this killer installed, never seen one before.
Thanks for sharing the pictures :notworthy::notworthy:

Any chance you got more pictures of it?
Are you the owner of this one?
Final question, is it possible to use it on a track?
I'm thinking how she is to handle on a track, since the motor got more power than the side car "pilots" actually have use for.

Reminds me of a Quad my buddy bought off Ebay, with a air cooled 750 Honda 4 cylinder
in it.

Scare your friends, what about the guy on it! I would be scared of just trying to start it. Wonder how the vibration is?

A wise old guy once said he didn't know were the term "big balls" came into play with dangerous acts. He said he studied anatomy for many hours and couldn't find anything that would connect it? He finally said there was a nuerological connection that usually isn't fully connected untill the our later years. I asked what connection it was?, he said it was between the brain, throttle control and the resulting pain that could follow! I'm glad my "connection" connected, finally:D

That's a magazine I'll be looking for, thanks for sharing

I think I know where that bike might be today ;)
It might also be the twin, since I've heard they built more than one.

Cheers mate :D

Now that is just awesome. I've seen pics of twin CR500 cylinders on custom engine cases, just because. Never heard or seen anything on these before though.

Love that prototype waterpumper enduro lookin bike. Wild stuff****************************************

I could absolutely see trying to run something like that in a custom motocross sized 3 wheeler for sand dune blasting. Already been thinking of building the 85/86 Husqvarna 500XC 3 wheeler that should have been. This would be perfect, but I'm afraid to ask how much.

Another thing that's wild, is the two into one pipe, before the expansion chamber no less. Never seen anything like that on a 2 stroke before, and get a load of the intake joining the two cylinders over to a single carby setup, wow. Wild stuff! Guess they were trying to keep it simple on that model.

I know where to find a water cooled Folan motor (2x500cc) and the air cooled (2x500cc) bike from the article, and they are for sale (at least the water cooled motor) :p

If anyone got a pile of cash and would be interested in any of the above "toys" could I direct you to the owner.

Unfortunately don't I have that pile of cash myself

Edit: Folan made 57 of the water cooled motor
