• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Folding tip shifter

I put an IMS steel one on. Its about 3/4 of an inch shorter but works very well for me. I'll try and find the package and post up when I get home. I think the application is the same as above.

DC,
Look at their catalog for 34-2147, I believe that goes to 2012. I think the difference is one is shorter than the other, the 48 being shorter. I went with the longer one (47) which is the same length as the stock one. Does "stick out" a tad more than stock but not an issue to me.

What did that run price wise? Like the idea of steel, something to consider DC......

The shifter was $30 IMS Shift Lever
Item# IMS-SL-YZ1|2|80 Application was 2003 YZ250 I went with steel because the splines on the alloy shifters strip when the bolt gets loose and I can bend the steel back into place if needed

Just thinking here... If it sticks out a bit more...can't you bend it a bit so it doesn't. It is made of steel and not aluminum.

Might have to order one and find out myself.:busted:

I like the IMS one because it feels more positive when it shifts and the 3/4 shorter length reduces lever travel. Very solid feel.

Thanks for the link, I'll use motosport to keep rocky mt. and dennis kirk honest.
I ordered the aluminum one, thinking I'd rather have the splines in the shifter get worn than the ones on the shaft.
In hindsight however, I believe even the steel ones come with a softer alloy on the spline area so as not to ruin the shaft.
We shall see.

My son hit a rock just right with his Honda 250 dirt bike and broke the shifter off and did some internal damage. No cracked casing though and the internal damage was not serious. Would this one bend, break, or neither?

I think they would match up they do look the same and hammerhead has many options. pin size can always be adjusted with drill. Or I could remove it and send to promotobillet and have they strip it and re-anodized
Red.

Did you bend that? I bought "SUNLINE FOLDING ANODIZED ALLOY SHIFTER for [YAMAHA YZ250F 06-12]"
and the shape was all wrong (the splines fit). I tried bending it like the stock shifter, but couldn't. Plus, it was a bit shorter.

Aside from the $60 (plus s/h) shifter from Touratech, what folding shifter will fit without mods that's about the same length and bend as stock? Is there one?

Did not bend it. Didnt even try.... When you say all wrong! Farther away from case....yes. Length was very close for me. Dont have the stock one to compare.

I should have taken a pic... mine didn't follow the lines of the case, and seemed to have a different bend than yours.
