Fork length on 79 250cr

What should the overall length be on the forks on a 79 250cr. The pitted forks my bike came with are 42”, and the forks I bought are about 38”. Only other difference other than length is the shorter forks have Goki engraved on the caps, and also the axle area looks less beefy.

The forks in the bottom two pictures look to be 78 forks.
