• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Friend just bought this 85 400

86 400 XC

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Very nice and original condition.

Paid 1500 a fair price for a clean ready to ride bike.

If i had the cash i would have bought this bike too.

that is sick sweet (a common statement that makes no sense)
anyway I think that is an 84

I guess the canadian versions have some differences from USA versions.
Locking fork device,
Decals on swingarm that say Husqvarna instead of enduro, cross country etc
different muffler than any I have

Some things I note
Shoe brake yet fork castings for first (what I call 85-86 floppy disc) disc brake set up
Kickstand location, perhaps owner mod?
Kickstarter is of 87-88 design, can't tell about the clutch cover. Maybe a newer whole engine is that removable piece present near the sprocket?
I like that way to secure the rear backing plate for the brakes which I associate with some of the earliest mono shock bikes.

I have a brochure on the 85s and and only the WR had drum front brakes and the all 85s just said Husqvarna on the swing arm and had white forks..
Has a skinny tank compared to the 86, my 87 has no steering lock.
I noticed a large VIN tag with rivets on the frame along with the stamped VIN, new to me to see a tag.
what brand are them handles, so cool?

Which part near the sprocket Fran, chain guard or sprocket cover? Looks normal to me.
Kick stand was a hack job install big time...
Maybe it got a new cover if it had the bad W/P backing plate that coolant ate?
I think the muff is a bigger stock quiet type for Euro street use, has the brake light switch peddle also.

The 87-88 went to a six spring clutch which seems to go along with a different clutch cover and the aluminum kickstarter and the steel piece the kick starter attaches to. The easiest, at least for me way to tell externally is the 87-88 did away with that little plate under the sprocket cover that could be used to pull out that bearing if you have suitable method. The bikes you list under your avatar picture should have the two things I am describing. I guess I forgot about the corroding issue though I think it is worse where they don't use anti freeze.

My 86 400 Enduro, had a steering lock too, answer style silencer, natural color. Never seen a 85 like this though, always thought all 85 where twin
shocks. Maybe it's 85-1/2?

I've seen plenty of Canadian bikes, but most Japanese models it's only a different paint scheme. Though i did have RZ500 & a 86 RD 350LC
2 stroke street bikes  Very cool bike, in real nice shape.

Husky John

I have another friend who has the 85 400 WR also, that 1 he bought it new in 85 and still has it/ rides it.
Same bike but he swapped front rims to a 85 XC rim for a disc conversion.
Steering lock and such but no tamper proof VIN plate/tag like Rod's.

That is definately a 1985 400WRX. I have one just like it in my barn. Only year it was made and mid year limited production. One year combination of WR engine and lighting and XC suspension. Mine will be ready to ride and for sale this coming spring.

Beautiful! Nice find. Does it actually still have the "second skin" metal plate on the pipe? That cuts down a bunch of noise with a thin layer of silencer packing in between the pipe and the second plate. Can you make those street legal up there in the Great White North?

The WRX came with the XC forks but mine has the WR forks as mine was a former Husqvarna sponsored bike here in New England. The rider had Husky swap to WR for him.

The underhangs are shorter on the single shocks because the triple clamps are much higher

They are shorter than my XC forks, Seems to me that its normal WR travel.
The skin is still there just like my 87 WR.
Yes can be made into a dual sport up here. :)
