  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Fuel consumption?

Why does my 2005 TE450 use more fuel than all my mates bikes?
Whenever we stop for fuel i put in at least 1 litre more than them, which works out quite expensive over here. The bike runs well with no problems and the plug is a good color. Any ideas?

I'd switch bikes with them for a bit and see if that changes. The difference in riding style (e.g. when to shift) makes a huge difference.

The 2005 bikes, even in Europe, did not have EFI. Although many things could have been done to the bike that would effect mileage such as a different exhaust and jetting.

As far as i can tell the bike is pretty much standard. Most of my mates do ride 450's and we pretty much have the same gearing. very happy with the bike, it's just i thought it a bit odd/expensive

The '05 bikes had a MUCH lower final drive ratio than '06 and newer bikes. I bet you are revving a bit more, assuming your mates are on non-'05 bikes. Also the '06 and '07 bikes make more power (compression ratio, valves, etc.) so there too they will have a slight advantage and that could contribute.

If you are all on '05's with similar gearing, then its riding style. Guys who are smooth and short shift get a lot better milage than guys who are on the gas then on the brakes then on the gas. Just some ideas for ya.
