  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

Gold Valve Emulators

Who says I don't know my race-partner :)

Subarumy98 or HuskyHamm did you cut down the fork spring and add a spacer on top of the fork spring to stiffen the spring?

not to be confused with the required adaptor from Race Tech.

@HuskyT

I used the 43 Racetech springs supplied in the kit by husqvarna-parts. Its 500mm long, smaller dia than original. I checked on Racetech catalogue and this is all the will fit into the 40mm forks. The emulator sits ontop a 19mm nylon bush and with 500mm spring the length of spacer ontop of spring is cut to 130mm to give the correct static and rider sag.

After reading other posts I can see the confusion.

The 19mm tall PVC bush, spacers, I had made up for myself and Subaru (replacing the allu one supplied) is placed between the emulator and dampening rod which has been machined flat (step removed) on top. The reason for this bush is it reduces tolerance to the sides of the forktubes and seals well ontop the modified dampener rod, thus minimal oil blowby and better control by emulator which is the purpose of the Goldvalve modification. You cannot increase the height of this bush much as the emulator will run dry of oil on the full extension of the forks.
As said I drilled 8mm holes as specified in Racetech instructions, and run the Blue springs with 3 turns as when supplied.

500mm forksprings on top of emulators, 130mm spacers ontop springs. These spacers can be cut from the supplied alluy tube, or from pvc, ur choice.

As said my airgap is 6". With emulators the forks become much more airgap sensitive and progressive than before.

I'm 6'1 and like to have a machine smooth and easy as possible to ride with a comfortable to firm, and progressive suspension. Going stiffer, smaller airgaps, heavier oils don't work for me. No I dont know what armpump is, and set my bikes up till there is none to be experienced. Yes handlebars and perches also play a major role here but thats another topic.

Good luck guys.
