• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Grease type for the rear suspension linkage TE 610

What type of grease are you using to your bikes?Should we use a specific one(ex.lithium)or what ever comes in hand?

I think the manual calls for lithium soap grease but if you ever encounter water (which I'm guessing you probably do.......) I know a lot of off-road guys tend to recommend a waterproof grease (I think Bel Ray is waterproof grease and widely available in the States?)

In the past I've always just used lithium soap grease and have never experienced any problems; I think the most important thing is to make sure that this part of the bike is serviced as frequently as it should be as we all know it is often one of the most overlooked parts of any motorbike (esp. off-road bikes !!)

I've just redone my YZ250 linkage and the manual called for Molybdenum Disulphide grease. I managed to pick up a tin cheaply enough; it's black in colour as it contains microscopic graphite beads and is apparently the best grease for suspension applications (not sure if it's waterproof though!)

I use Belray Waterproof or comparable and mix that 50/50 with Moly Grease (as high of a potency I can find). I disassemble (the swingarm, linkage, shock) 1-2 times per year and have not had an issue with siezing/corosion/problems (which is key).

Don't get that molly grease on your clothes. it barely comes off your hands.

it's funny Yamaha specs molly grease but their bikes don't come stock with it in the bearings.

I use Castrol boating grease (waterproof like BelRay), sticks really well to the bearings and waterproof.

Been using Bel-Ray for years.. But recently started to use Amsoil Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease (as recommended by "wallybean")..

More info here: Amsoil Grease.. Link to video: Grease Testing.. Wonder how Bel-Ray would have fared in the "pound-out" test.. Cheers.. :)
