• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Headed to the dealer with an underpowered Terra, any tips?

Just for future reference (because I have had a slow day at work today).

The cable guide in the exploded view above is the 43kw (58HP) version
That part only shown here

And the 35kw (48HP) version looks like this

Keep in mind when Bigdog went to the single exhaust he also hogged the cat out of the remaining one so he would increase its flow.
I don't know if anyone has done a single side with a completely stock silencer.

I guess I could just put my hand behind the two mufflers and see if one is much more forceful?

You could pull the inserts out and see if the spark arrestor mesh is clogged. With the inserts out take her out for a test ride. If no difference you could remove the mufflers and try again. If no difference then it would rule out the exhaust.

Well, I finally retrieved the bike from Big D in Woodland Park, CO. Ryan (their trained Husky tech) didn't find anything out of sorts on the bike. He did connect it to the Moss computer and it updated something but the machine doesn't say exactly what. The air box and filter were clean. The bike runs exactly the same. I guess that's all the power its got, at least down low. I will admit that I am not accustomed to running thumpers at higher revs. I usually operate at 2k-4500. Perhaps this motor only achieves it's power up at higher revs. I do know that it was a lot more fun off road with a 14 tooth front sprocket. I spent two days of travel on this service, $150 in fuel. I'll never get that back.
Thanks for all your tips. I'm selling the bike. It's too similar to my Sertao to keep in my stable. I thought my Sertao would be wore out after my S America trip and the Husky would replace it. But the Beemer is still in fine shape and with all new suspension, better than new.
It's got ~4100 miles, excellent shape: Motosportz skid plate, BR Rack and top plate, Barkbusters, TT headlight guard,TT mud guard, TT GPS mount,TT rear master guard, engine and cowl guards, center stand.Brand new TK80 frt and HeidenauK60 rear. Full set of wolfman luggage, Madstad windshield(unmounted) optional. $7000 located in Taos, NM

have you seriously not revved it passed 4K........?, that's only a high idle for this engine!

Try 6-7K and see what happens, you'll probably brown your undies:D if your on lose gravel in 2, 3, or 4 gears. These engines will rev all day and make no fuss at this RPM....plenty of comments on here about guys cruising all day a 80mph.

Highfive did, and it was underpowered.

I have ridden it pass 4K but I haven't noticed anything amazing happening there. My bike can't pass 55MPH traffic safely on a two lane road in 5th gear with a 14 tooth front sprocket and D606's. I've never ridden it past 70 much because of the head shake. Almost all of my 4500 miles has been on dirt roads and sand.

None of that adds up. With a stock 16T front sprocket I can go from 55 to 70 in a couple of seconds without downshifting. I literally do this on my morning commute everyday. I'm convinced that headshake has to be a user setup problem, as it is not uniform across the bike. I've had both cast and spoke wheels, Tourances and K60s, and neither caused any shake or weave.

I'm going to jump in on this too. I have ridden the bike up to 100mph on the freeway, both with a screen on and with it off, I have had a variety of wind conditions from still to heavy crosswinds, I have ridden the bike with handguards on and off and none of these things have created headshake. I don't get it.

What kind of fuel economy are you getting? This may not result in any conclusions, but widely low fuel economy might help with a direction to look.

The head shake problem improved but didn't completely go away when I changed tires from D606's to K60RR/TK80FRT. The only other think that might affect it is the barkbusters I have installed. I haven't worried about it much because I don't have afreeway anywhere near where I live or travel.

I'm getting around 50MPG on rural roads and secondary highways. My Sertao gets 60-65 in the same terrain.

Definitely not the Barkbusters. I'm running them and have no headshake. I think you need to be looking at your suspension setup. Having the preload set incorrectly on the rear can greatly affect the front end.

I'm going with there must be something amiss. 50 mpg is low if you're on rural and secondary roads. You should be seeing similar to your Sertao. I don't burn the gas until I'm hauling the mail at not-exactly-legal speeds on the highway.

Power wise, it's pretty lack luster under 3k for sure. It picks up higher in the revs. Adequate power, but it's nothing to grow hair on your chest, but I gauge everything off open class 2 strokes. It is supposed to put out a good amount more power than the Sertao, so if riding them back to back that doesn't seem the case, then something is still not right.

If you're set on selling it, let me know if you want to sell it as is, or if you'd consider selling some of the extras (skid plate/bark busters/wolf bags).

...lets get one thing straight. "head shake" is very different to a "gentle weave", which is what mine will do sometimes, no big deal really and a cross wind seems to have an effect. If I ever got "head shake", I probably wouldn't be here to type this.....

so, do you have a weave or a shake?
