    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Headlight feels hot, new bulb....

Hey guys I put a new Silverstar Ultra in, and the light feels hot to the touch. Do you think I will melt the housing?
 
TerraCzar, a few of us have gone a different route that may fix your problems. Cyclops is making an H4 LED bulb that fits into our housing. Baddrapp and I are both using it, and I think a few others. More light output with less watts and less heat. Both of us seem to agree that we're losing a little light to scatter on the high beam function, but the low beam LED is really as good as the stock high beam. The bulb is only $60 and should last about as long as the motorcycle itself. Keep in mind, this is a full H4 replacement, including a diode fan and H4 plug. This is not a cheaply made product at all.

There may be more people entering this game of LED H4 bulbs. I had a long conversation with the Twisted Throttle guys at RDV this year. Adam was testing an LED H4 bulb for another company. We compared them, and both seemed to agree that the best solution would be a cylindrical LED where the low beam is near the base and the high beam is near the tip, both wrapping entirely around the bulb. He was going to make that suggestion to the company for which he was testing.

I'm out in the desert at night and this bulb is great. It is not my only light source, but it is a huge improvement over stock. I'll be buying another for my Yamaha Raider.

Also regarding the Silverstar, I wouldn't use it as there is already an account on this site of the headlight being damaged by bulb heat.
 
Thanks for the LED info, so far so good on the new bulb, no melting plastic after several hour long runs.

I don't know if I bought the "safe for plastic lens" version or not.
