  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Trail Tech X2

this ^
my friend has the HID model and that thing is crazy bright.
the regular halogen version is very good too and is much cheaper at around $80, think the HID is close to $300.

Georges Up-Tite LED is very reliable, I have had the light on 2 different bikes and am really happy with the quality and brightness. I use it on the road also on the TE and the CHiPs never flash a blue light at me. When the trail gets overgrown, the trail explodes into view at you.The singletrack is supurb.

Does the trail tech 610 model fit and work on the 510s? Will the bike put out enough power? I emailed trail tech and said they have never tested it on a 510 before. Wondering if anyone has a kit on there 510

I'm pretty sure it will work on the 510 as well. Motorsportz is a dealer for Trail Tech and has good prices on the headlights. You could ask them if it does for sure.

trailtech x2 halogen has been great for me. U will have no problem with single track at night. I have mine wired so low beam comes on with key and both come on with high beam switch. Its like driving my truck with silverstars through the woods. I could only imagine hid version. Its a great price as well!!!

what bike do you have it on? did you have to upgrade your stator?

last i checked the trail tech x2 halogens would run off most stock systems. for the hid the system needs a boost. i use the baja designs regulator/rectifier for around $40. if you request it, they'll include the dc stator conversion instructions and "hardware..." mostly heat shrink tubing, wire, and small bits. the instructions are awesome. anyone who can solder and use basic tools can follow them.

With an '09 TE you have plenty of power for the X2. I put one on my '09 TE450 and had one issue that had to be modified, the straps hit my IMS at thier thickest spot which made the turning radius of the front too large, I made an aluminum bracket so it mounts like the stock light without straps.

What's the alternator output on a 2006 TE-510? Ideally I'd like to run a brighter headlight, GPS, and heated vest & pant simultaneously.

Should run on the 510 no problem, many people doing so. Heated vest and pant might be a deal breaker though.

the Halogen X2 is an excellent inexpensive light. the X2 HID is a freaking flamethrower but is $$ and more complex inside. Trailtech is also offering a NEW LED light with 12w/6w/3w (watts) 6hr/12hr/24 hour off a single bat. I will be picking one up and testing it ASAP. Those guys are big into lighting and know their stuff.

The new super LED light (800 lumens)...

Will do a review compared to my MR16 HID spot helmet light. (super bright light)

Thanks for the reply. How can I find out the stator output? I'd like to sum up the loads and compare it to the output.

I think the '06 is around 80 watts, the FI models have a much larger stator with more poles. I rewound the stator on my '05 and get around 100 watts, pretty easy to do yourself but you need to get a different reg/rectifier and have some electrical skills. Trailtech has a whole kit that will give you around 100 watts as well for a decent price.

Ok. I just ordered a trail tech x2 halogen trail version light. It should be here in a week or so i will let everyone know how it goes.

I have a trailtech x2 halogen( dual sport ) on my 08' TE 510. The plug for the 610 didnt look the same. I ordered the universal black one with the Husqvarna sticker. Install was a little tricky due to the different mounting options for the fender. I ended up shaving little U shaped notches into the black fender support to get the pins to fit. Fender support is a little to wide. Patience is key here. Very little trimming at a time to get it nice looking. You could also sand it when satisfied to smooth it out. You will also need to re-locate your horn or remove it. The x2 is deeper in the back vs. stock light. You will be very satisfied with the halogen. I put a little toggle switch that allows me to have both high/low on if needed. I have only had a few people flash me at night with high or high/low on.

I have not had any electrical issues with both lights on, but I have also converted all lights to LED's. Very white halogen light with a good spread.

How did you wire the toggle switch- which wires? I would like to run both lights on high.

Thanks.
