• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

So, the oil cap we have for the terra is like leaking down the frame.
it's not the stock cap, it's some red cap without the dipstick and the oring is missing.

i look in the barn, but could no find the original cap anywhere.

so hear's the deal. we have a bmw dealer that I can get another cap from, and also a ducati dealer, but I need to knwo what kind of cap will fit.

so can y'all help me!? mom's going over to big island tmmrw, so she can bring one back, i just need to know what cap from what year bikes fit the terra!!!

Yep, just buy an assortment of o-rings at a local parts store. One of them will fit. Throw the rest in the garage for later use on other projects. You can never have too many o-rings around.

The red cap you have is probably from a Ducati anyway. It is much better than the stock cap with the dipstick. The plastic threads on the stock cap are no bueno.
 
Orings work great when your part has an actual oring groove. If your cap does not have a groove to capture/locate/hold an oring, then your oring is just going to "smoosh" (technical engineering term) out of place as you tighten the cap. You would be better off finding a crush gasket (auto part stores have them in assorted sizes out on the shelf with car drain plugs...near the oil filters) or getting some paper gasket material and cutting your own gasket.

Hit up Thing (bro) #2.....I bet he knows exactly what isle those crush gaskets are located on in the auto parts store.

I have the red Ducati cap and although it looks GREAT, it leaked oil all over the front of the bike. For some reason the crush washer just didn't seal. I think that it's the top of the threaded oil fill tube not being flat. It wasn't made that way as the o-ring was the seal. I went back to the stock cap until I can figure another way. I would try to flatten the sealing surface on the bike but I am afraid to get metal filings in the oil reservoir. Sure like that red cap though. Maybe I can cut a sealing groove in the cap....

I used the supplied washer/gasket and the plug has been taken on/off several times with no leaking issues what so ever. The description says it is 22mm so the crush gasket size you need is going to be for a 22mm drain plug.

A quick Google search shows that many dodge ram deisel trucks, BMW cars, and camaro's use that size drain plug. I bet any of those dealers would have a ton of them in stock as well! The nearest autoparts store would be cheaper though, just ask for an M22 gasket.

I think she is referring to the Fill plug, not the Drain plug? Maybe not??
 
Sure....but she is going to ask for a crush washer gasket for an M22 drain plug. If she says fill plug, the parts guy is going to look at her funny. :cheers:

i printed this page our and imma go down Napa and see what they can help with. Normally, the brothers would handle this, but it's just me at the house this week. AND we lost a damn horse.

so here's another question, if I can't find the orginial dipstick, how can I tell how much oil is in there? i want to ride, but now i"m afraid because I don't know how much has leak out?
 
Just my opinion..but since the dip stick is only measuring the amount of oil in the frame reservoir, I think it is less crucial than say a dip stick measuring oil in the sump of our engines.
I think the max mark is to keep the maximum amount of oil in the frame and still allowing for expansion.

Okay then....just gotta take off 5/8 from those #'s. From bottom of the threads is...

Max line = 2"
Min line = 3 3/4"
 
so i ended up getting a m22 gasket, but it was rubber and no copper or metal.
it worked, but it's hella ugly becuase it's bigger than the plug thing. it'll work till the bothers(!) are back at home.

no pictures, i'll do that tmmrw.
