    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

ive just bought a 2005 model te250 and i need to put the indicators back on it to make it more road legal. however i am having a few problems. ive had a volt meter across the loose indicator wires at the rear and front of the bike and i dont seem to be getting any power to the connectors. ive taken apart the handle bar switch and put a volt meter across the connectors on the back of the switch while the switch is turned on and i dont seem to be getting any power across there either. so im a bit stumped for ideas. the other thing i cant find is the flasher unit could someone please tell me were this should be located. the other thing i would like to sort out is the warning lights on the dash aren't working (lights, highbeam and blinkers) would this be a combined problem with the lack of power going through the indicator wires. finally i am a little concerned about the lack of a key to start the bike so i have bought a switch that i will hide somewere on the bike, have you got any suggestions about were to incorporate this switch into the circuit?

not sure if this is the case for you, but my flashers only work when the bike is running, not just key on. same with brake light too.
 
+1 on the bike running before the lights will work. I'm pretty sure they have been relayed that way for a long time.

On the flasher relay location, it's either located behind the headlight, or on the left hand side of the frame by the starter relay. On my 2010 I had a heck of a time finding it as it was tiny and hiding behind the starter relay. It should be a square but flattish looking relay, about 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3/8"

cheers for your help. i have been testing with the motor running cos i dont have an ignition key just a kill switch and leccy start switch and nothing is on until the motor is running. with the flasher relay is it probably gonna be a tank off job to get too it or something else. ill have another hunt today. cheers

Does your bike have a clutch interlock? My 2006 has a wire going to the clutch lever that makes a easy theft deterrent.
 
Hi,
On my TE250 -08 the flasher indicator is feed by the same cable as the flash light, which in turn is feed by the flasher unit. This unit is located behind the rear end of the frame, left side.
Find it and use the ohm meter to make sure the cables are OK from the unit to the controlbar. On my bike to colour of the cable is blue/black. After the controlbar the blue/black connects with the red/black or the skyblue depending on if you switch left or right.
Nothing apart from position lights is working without the engin started as the power relay has not pulled.

Why don't you by a cheap key switch (dont know the english word..)?
also I believe you should get a wiring diagram of your bike.
 
thanks for the help. i downloaded the full workshop manual the other night and it has all the wiring diagrams. so i know what color wires im looking for and i know there is a flasher unit i just cant find it. ive been thinking about getting a keyed ignition switch but i think i might just put a hidden kill switch somewhere and use a disk lock. @runner what is a clutch interlock. is it something that stops you starting unless the clutch is pulled in or something like that. if so my bike doesnt have one.

I have a feeling that the '05's relay lives behind the headlight. It's black, slightly smaller than a zippo and has a 2 pin socket moulded into it.
 
Where are you? '05 was not factory street legal in the US so it didn't come with factory street legal wiring.

If you have the diagram the clutch switch som be visible in serial with the starter button & the starter relay.
The starter key switch should as I understand powerfeed that complete circuit but I am no 100 so maby som other person can fill in..
 
im in australia. i think your spot on 7point62 i found what looks like a mounting point just behind the speedo sort of on the fork spreaders (not sure what there actually called) but although the mounting point is there there is no flasher unit and the wiring loom doesn't seem to have a break in it. i had the tank off the other day and the indicator wires seem to go from the front indicators and handle bar switch and straight into the main wiring conduit and doesn't exit until your under the seat were it just continues to the rear lights. i might just take it back the shop this week and see what they can do
 
all sorted. had a proper crack at it today and found two cut wires in behind the headlight. i also found were the flasher unit should be as mentioned before so i hooked up the front indicators properly turned the switch touched the 2 wires and hazam we have light. so i just have to get a (generic) flasher unit from a bike shop plug it in and hopefully i will have flashing indicators.
