  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Here is something to think about ! Gas is worse than I thought !

Husqvarna
AA Class
Just returned from a small engine shop here in Austin. Getting new fuel lines for inside the
fuel tank for the little Husqvarna leaf blower ( had to Husky right? ) This was new just last fall.
Fuel lines inside tank had rotted from the ethanol fuel.

60% of his business is for fuel related problems for our small 2 stroke engines cousins !!

They did a test and it showed the gas and ethanol is separating as little as five weeks or less. They seen also that ethanol is attracting much water and moisture .

Note - the parent company that owns this shop is the biggest supplier of small engine parts on the web.

5 weeks ? Wow - I have other bikes here in garage that I don't get to ride. They have gas in tanks.

I am dumping and draining all my other bikes gas right now. Going to make sure I always have fresh gas and oil mix. And going to drain gas from float bowls each time I ride

I believe I should invest and start using VP race gas. Have not checked the local small airport for possible supply

What Gas is everybody using ??

Just think of the hours we have invested in rebuilding our Husky Engines

Not sure about Texas but there are many places here that still sell non ethanol gas. Might search around. Also I would not leave any steel or aluminum tanked bikes without gas in them for any length of time.

In California gas is 'not good' after about 6 weeks - unless I add in 'Stabil'. Then it is good for 18 months.

When I say 'bad', I mean it is not good for small engines, but will power a auto/truck just fine with no problems.

I've no idea if Stabil is a good thing for ethanol fuel.

California not only has ethanol to contend with but also MTBE. Gas turns to varnish pretty quickly. additives like Sea Foam or Star-Tron help alot.

I started buying my premix for leaf blower, chain saw already mixed ready to use. It suppose to last 2 years we'll see. My motorcycles get VP fuel not going to take any chances.

i use the green sta-bil ez to find & not to expensive but not a big deal for me my boys use a gallon of amsoil a month @ 40:1 gas dont sit long round here:eek:

Gary,
Go to either of these marinas (Emerald Point or Lake Austin) and get your small engine fuel there. It has an additive called valvtect already mixed in and is probably ethanol free. As a test I left the gas in my weed eater over the winter with no problems 2 years ago and my bike last year with no ill effects. Where I live it is about .50 per gallon more but well worth it. For anyone else that wants to try it their website has a dealer locator.

+1 for Star Tron, been using it for years now. Sta-Bil before that. after i saw a huge improvement using Star Tron in my truck, I started using it in everything.

bikes get Sunoco race gas.

drain yer carbs!

nothings worse than getting to a ride spot and some doof's bike wont run and needs a carby overhaul in the staging area, it happens a lot!!! i hate that!!!....and im usually the one doing the nasty in riding gear while everyone looks on bs'ing and drinking coffee! i used to do it for free! now? plugged carb? 50$ or stay at the truck. esp on a modern asian LC4T, ever pull a carb on those? charge 80$ for those! i've pulled bowls and found etched and eaten floats, bowl insides and jets. all kinda crap grows in there now, it's destructive too.

drain yer freakin carbs, every freakin ride!

I use Stabil Marine formula in my fuel. It's the blue stuff. I drain the carb right after each ride. The stuff in the tank remains okay. The WR has the plastic float bowl and I have observed that the fuel doesn't seem to go bad in that, but in the bikes with aluminum float bowls, if the fuel sits only a week and then I drain it, the gas comes out green.

Startron and Stabil work great, nearly identicle products. Seafoam needs to be avoided because it contains high %'s of alcohol which adds to the problem. I also use Xylene, though not available to us Californians, we can buy it in AZ. Xylene will increase the octane numbers closer to 100. :D
