Why the IT up front?
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
I have a long ride coming up in September. California to Arizona on the freeway and once in Arizona going to Utah via back country dirt roads. I need a tire that is more aggressive than stock. I thought of the Motoz Tractionator, but the M speed rating, 81 MPH, turns me off. How about K60 rear with a TKC80 or 606 Front. What about TKC 80 all around? Dunlop 908 rear with a Dunlop 606 front?
Open to all suggestions.
Thanks,
Brian
Combat boots hunh? I was thinking big heels. Usually like the ones found in places where they have a pole floor to ceiling.
K60 Rear and IRC TR8 front. Knobs on the TR8 are just slightly closer together than the D606 (my go to DS tire for the most) and much taller than the TKC. Very good on the road and almost as good as the 606 off. Use 606's all around if you don't mind the wear.
sounds like a cool trip! Be interested to know what tank pannier setup you have going there? If I was preparing for another long trip and didn't want to mess with tires, this is exactly the setup I'd go with. On a lighter bike, I put 12K miles on a k60 and abused the thing. Amazing tire. First two pics were taken in the Guatemalan highlands, on our way south. Last one was on baja, on way back. In the middle of baja, it felt good to know I had a big, tough, badass piece of rubber between me and all those rocks.View attachment 41539View attachment 41540View attachment 41541
