  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How far will my bike go on a tank?

TE 250 Girl

Husqvarna
A Class
We are going to Idaho in a couple of weeks. My understanding is that we will be riding a 70 mile loop, with gas available at 60 miles. I was told not to worry about it but Im a little concerned still.

I have a regular gas tank. And my bike has a JD jet kit in it (this sure made it run smoother!). It claimed to get better fuel economy also.(?)

Should I carry gas? Oh, my bike is an '07 TE 250.

Thanks!:)

60 miles might be push'n the limit. If I'm in doubt I usually carry a 2 lt. plastic pop bottle full of fuel.
I think it works out to be about 1/2 gal extra for the non-metric crowd.:D

I've gone 100+ miles many times with my 2006 TE250 without going to reserve, virtually identical to yours. Easy riding, but still you should have no problem.

I can get about 72 miles on a tank before hitting reserve if I am riding all dirt and deep sand, and over 100 miles for pavement and easy fire roads. And that's on the 07 450.

Wow my light comes on around 50 miles on my 450. Throttle tube should be full counterclockwise all the time right?;)

Your tank holds less because of the fuel pump.:busted:

I get about 60+ mpg and have a 2.4 gallon tank I believe. But I am slow....

I guy I ride with who had an 07 TE250 and always complained about how poor the mileage was, I'd at least carry liter bottles to bum gas from someone just in case. My 07 TC 450 max gets 50 miles , usually 45-47 on the stock tank. Also it all depends on how you ride. :excuseme:

Lucky gal! Where will you be riding in Idaho?

I think it is imperative for any trail rider to know how far he/she can go on a tank of fuel. You should fill up your tank, do a big loop (intending to end somewhere near your home/truck/camp) and carry extra fuel with you. Run it til it goes on reserve and note the mileage. Run it dry and note the mileage. Then you'll know for sure  It has been my experience that the exact same bikes can/will get different mileage depending on who is riding them, where they're being ridden, how they're tuned, etc.

Good luck and have fun! I'll be looking forward to the ride report and photos :D

I also have on 07 TE250 with the JD jetting. This bike will easily do 80-90 miles on a trail ride with the stock tank. I've gotten up to 100 miles on dual sport rides. However, I don't bounce it off the rev limiter.

FYI - I just got an IMS 3.4 gallon tank with 2010 tank shrouds and now should be able to do 130-140 miles.

I'd think 60++ miles will not be a problem ... Just do a few miles saving a little gas and don't just let it rip the entire way ...

My 08 TXC250 gets ~52 MPG the last time I checked .... I'll try to match this guys speed and see if I can get my number up closer to his ... :)

Thanks for all of the advise! It seems like I should be fine.

We are going to an area near Stanley Idaho, Yankee Fork. Then moving camp to Baumgartner, near Featherville. This is where we will ride to Atlanta. Thats our long loop I guess?

Huh, I just did close to 40 miles up at Akeley and I don't think I used a gallon. If it was over a gallon, it was not much over.

I was thinking that I HAD to have a larger tank to do a D23 enduro, but am pretty sure that I would be fine with the stock tank even for trail riding. Will probably do a larger tank for dual sport events, but I doubt it will be a permanent fixture.

52mpg?? :jawdrop:

I'm lucky to get half of that

This is with some slow street riding and trails mixed ... Bikes MPG can vary alot dependng on the throttle ...

There are some very good singletrack trails near Yankee Fork  If you like learning the history of places you visit be sure to do the Custer Motorway so you can see the old dredger and the ghost town and stuff. It's neat out there.

The loop from Baumgartner to Atlanta is beautiful. It is a long loop from Baum to Atlanta and back to Baum on trails if you aren't used to long trail rides. If you get to Atlanta and are tired, you can always come back on the road. The burgers at the Beaver Lodge are pretty good :)

I will be missing out on my trip to Idaho this year, since my husband broke his shoulder blade on a ride in NV and can't get more time off to go. I'm really bummed about that :(

I concur. My 09 te450 hicups at 30 mi. & thats after rezip tieing/safety wiring the pump. warning light - whats that? never warns me

ummmm....

I think some of you are mixing up miles per gallon, and miles per tank. Nothing at all wrong with that, I just see somethings being mis-interpreted slightly.

2008 & newer TEs had efi, 2010 TXC250 did too, the rest of the TEs & TXCs had carbs. The bikes without efi seems to get more fuel out of the tank... and it seems better mpg, or maybe the non-efi bikes are ridden more slowly. :)

just did the sunny corner rally N.S.W and only got 65km's befor the fuel warning light came up ,loop we were doing was 74k's so i was a bit worried whether i would make it home.Refilled tank at home odo was reading 80km's and ther was 1/2 litr fuel left.these bikes seem to be pretty thirsty when compared to a WR etc.

So you were gassing the bike pretty hard n the top gears or what?
