  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How much oil in a '10 Te250.

I've got 1.2 liters of Motul 5100 in the gararge. Is that enough?

BTW, the TE250 ran great at Speedsville. I screwed up the ride but the bike was fine!

.9 Liters with a filter change. I actually run a bit more than that as a precaution. I generally fill a measured .9 Liters in the crankcase. Then I top off a bit more until the sight glass is about 3/4 full. I've been doing this since new on both my 2010 TC and 2010 TXC 250's and have not had any issues. I also think this may help with the oil starved clutch plate issues some folks have reported.

It's kinda convenient because you know a liter jug will cover you on an oil/filter change. Uses HF 116's for filters, same as the newer single cam Hondas. Drain plug is a little tricky to coax out, specially if the oil's hot. No external oil cooler, just the engine itself.

I need to find a way to get that screen out behind the drain plug.

Any ideas?
I use a an ice pick with a small hook bent into the end and the sharp point smoothed off a bit so it won't pierce the screen. If you put the hook into the drain hole about 3/4 of an inch, get a very gentle "bite" on the screen (preferably the solid end cap of the screen), and wiggle the pick a bit without putting a lot of pressure on the hook, it should loosen the screen up and it'll come out without applying enough pressure to pierce the screen material.

Also, another important tip: When going back together, make sure the screen is pushed all the way back into the drain hole as far as it will go before trying to start finger tightening the drain plug or you might cross thread the plug... ask me how I know. :banghead:

concur on volume... manual states "u.s. quarts 0.95," which is 0.9 liters, or 30 ounces. i use a ratio rite to measure mine out.

to remove the screen a bolt is safe. the threads provide enough grip on the inside of the screen with no chance of damage... although i'm sure i could find a way.

Man, that drain bolt and screen was a PITA!

The screen came right out with a small screwdriver.

putting it back in was not fun. I used a piece of paper folded to guide it and keep it clean.

The filter and screen were perfectly clean.

700cc oil came out and I found a small puddle of oil in the airbox boot.

Any ideas?

I epoxied a rare earth magnet in the countersunk portion of the drain bolt .. that way it never falls the socket/wrench on removal or install.

Then I use a Moose racing exhaust spring tool to remove the screen.. long enough to get it out without dropping it in the old splouge.

I also use gum cutter to clean the screen.. spraying from the inside out then air blow dry the same way.

I never changed the oil without doing the filter but it was best @ .9 litre... I aways drained the oil warm to very warm to remixed the settlement..

That is normal to find some oil in the airbox.. The harder the ride the more you will see that.

Hope it helps..

Chow, Carl
