• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How to check your valve clearances pictorial

Just got back from the 10k service, eventually paid 540 euros for materials and labour. Valves where within specs and there were no other significant points of worry. This gives me mixed feelings because I just paid a huge amount just for someone to say the bike is in good condition but on the other hand I should be glad that there are no issues. PS: They also charged 35 euros just to clear the wrench notification on the dash :P.

It's alot of work just to get in there to check the clearances. I would think add another couple of hundred to adjust if they needed that.

1 did mine at 18,000klms, all four at upper end of clearance, therefore no valve seat regression & everything looked perfect - I can see no reason to inspect again till 40,000klms

I would expect that the majority of owners would have the same results, and given the difficulty of the job, I hope I am one of them.
Unless I get problems I am thinking the 40,000 kms would be a reasonable option. After all, most things in the Workshop Manual can be taken with a pinch of salt.

I do change the oil regularly, aiming for 10,000klms, however I always change the oil & clean the filter before a long ride, looking at the maintenance log, on average the oil does 7,000klm

I run my bike in very hot conditions and generally slow traffic conditions too. Long runs are fairly rare and amount to max 500 km at average speeds of around 50 kmph in temperatures of around 35-40c so the oil has to work pretty hard IMHO.
For that reason I change my oil and filter at 2500-3000 km it cost me only $20 all in and I feel it is worth it.

I also have an aftermarket magnetic sump plug

The bike has a Magnetic Sump Plug as standard, well at least mine does ??

By the way, the dealership said that they dropped the engine which is easier and faster than having to deal with the airbox, fuel tank and swingarm. Maybe someone could try that out, it took them around 4 or 5 hours to check the clearances that is with dropping the engine method.

Interesting method?
