  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How to tell if the PCV is working?

You say aftermarket exhaust will make a significant difference? Sorry if I seem a little skeptical about it. Removing the catalytic converter made a noticeable difference but I am not sure how adding aftermarket will help. Has anybody tried doing a dyno comparison with lets say an FMF and a decatted factory muffler?

I removed the CAT in the stock muffler, was better. Went to the full FMF Megabomb pipe and header, made a lot more power. Huge difference but did take some tuning to make it run right again (showing it was in facted choked with the stock exhaust) No PCV for me but Map3 ECU and JD. Runs fantastic.

Or the Akro slip-on vs stock too.:)

I took the time to call a local dyno shop (only one for miles) & was going to get some AFR & power numbers but the bastard is min charge $160 first hour or part there of.
That's nearly a pair of tyres on a bike I know is running well, so didn't go ahead just to have numbers to quote.... :(

I went from stock to PCV with the FMF Powercore 4 and noticed a major difference. Seems like the bike loves to rev now and has a lot more bark acoss the powerband. I was also able to tune out the starting and flame-out issues that I was having.

Is the airbox mod worth it? Just questioning whether or not I want more dust, etc. in the airbox.

The slip on Akro is very restricted as well. I still have one sitting in a box, the thing is a heavy beast.

Okay so I now have a Barrett muffler on my bike instead of the factory pipe.

Amazing difference. Acts like a totally different machine. I never would have thought that an exhaust pipe could make that much of a difference. Honestly not getting a better muffler for the 449/511 is a waste of money IMO. It acts like someone put a 450cc motocross engine in it when I wasnt looking. The PCV is deffinately working. The top end is there finally. I have to actually hang on now:)

Totally off topic now, but could Zip-Ty Racing offer 449/511 crate engines? Kind of like how Speedbrain sells 449 engines. They could come built with almost all parts. Simple things like the valve cover could be swapped by the end user as a cost cutting measure (plus they are already drilled for the breather- some better than others). The original engine could be sent back to Zip-Ty for a rebate/core charge.
