    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Husky dealers sending back moss tools?

I think eventually an aftermarket company will make a tool that works like the Moss for our bikes. There should be pretty good demand for something like that since most of us will not have access to the factory tool. BMW bikes already have the aftermarket tool available to them and there is plenty of factory support around the world for those bikes. The husky has different connectors and different FI etc so the BMW compatible tools will not work with our bikes, but you would think KTM or whoever owns Husky now would supply an independent maker with all the info they need to look after us. There are still TR series bikes for sale (maybe even into 2014?), under the new ownership so you would think they would take responsibility for the bikes and get something made. There are a few of us in Canada with no Moss support at all, maybe we can band together and purchase one of the tools if/when they are available to look after our bikes. Its something you don't need all the time so one tool going back and forth accross the country could work out OK. On a brighter note Big D's in Colarado is only 15 hours straight south of my location...maybe they would throw in a free Moss diagnostic if I make the trip down? HaHa.

My Terra was plugged into the BMW moss. The problem was getting an authentication of the vin to move forward. Some are claiming they just need to hit an override and it will work, but I contend that it will not work for programming a key etc. The BMW service manager was supposed to check on whether or not they can get the vins programed, and I haven't checked back with them.

What most fail to take into consideration is that there are no more Terra/Strada/Nuda being made. This is a very limited niche bike, unlike the BMW, or other bikes/cars with longer production runs and with complex computers.
 
Hi magOO all I am really saying is the TR has been really well recieved by the aftermarket community, just look at all the goodies available for the bike already. One glaring omission is a tool for tuning/ECU programming. These tools are readily available for BMW GS series bikes that are just as complicated as the TR. Yes there are no more TR's being made (that we know of) and our numbers are smaller then the BMW bikes, but the demand will be there. The new owners are still selling TR's at this time so I would imagine they will feel some obligation to suport our bikes through an in house solution or help the aftermarket develop what we need. I guess I am saying the glass is half full...I have lots of time to see if the new owners or aftermarket prove me right. One thing I am sure about, this bike is alot of fun and exactly what I wanted for my first bike in many years!
 
They said they felt confident doing routine maintenance "oil changes" but would not be able to provide any advanced diagnostic support.
 
I know our dealer sent his back and bottom line - I think it was a financially-based decision not having to do with any recall. I did the rounds - Calling the local BMW dealer who said "nope"... "Not going to service them" and then the KTM dealer who said something similar and finally at Husqvarna Corporate in So Cal who boiled it down to this: Take it to a BMW/Husqvarna dealer who has the tool and is servicing Husqvarna or, in lieu of that, having your local dealer remove the ECM and all associated electrical equipment (Speedometer head, key etc) and have them send it to Husqvarna to be re-installed there and Mossed and then returned. My nearest dealer in in Colorado - 400 plus miles away and I'm not thinking I should have to pay for gas and a hotel to fix a known issue. Then, there is the whole 'overheating' issue to contend with. I love the bike but I'd really like it running well and not overheating. Come on dealers - Let's find a better way to service your customers!

Hey Mag, my local dealer is having there moss reconfigured and is eagerly waiting its return.
As you know they/we need it.
A credit... hopefully to buy another diagnostic tool/unit? (with the oss unit hourly charges will apply)

If they are going to stop supporting our TR's, one would hope they would release the ECU code.
 
Looking at the whole purchase of Husky. It seems like KTM and BMW are like the rich kids who bring all the marbles to come and play with the rest of the kids. It's a fun game until one of the rich kids pissed the other rich kid off. They take their marbles and go home leaving the other kids with the leftovers neither wanted.

They could care less if the other kids cry because there aren't enough marbles to play with and they can always find new friends who want their marbles anyway who don't know how they play.

What?!!! Where is the next closet dealer with a Moss tool for us then? Does anybody in California have one?

At what mileage does a service engine light come on that indicates basic maintenance? I'm approaching 3k miles and if that light comes on, I want to have a way to turn it off.

What is happening right now is this: BMW have introduced a new tool that supports all BMW vehicles, but it has no Husqvarna module. And they are stopping their MOSS system.
However because of their legal obligations and contract with KTM they can't stop all support for the TR650 and Nuda's. So they will introduce a new system for the Husky's: OSS. This is a simpler version of MOSS.
However dealers have to pay again to purchase the system. And most dealers don't have enough TR650 and Nuda customers to validate the purchase. So there will be fewer and fewer dealers with the OSS system. However we will be one of them.

This is the story I heard from my Husqvarna contacts.

However some stories on here are ridiculous. The system didn't cost $6.000. More like $2.500. Not cheap, but not that extreme.

I think the bike was too good for BMW or KTM to stomach, and this is their solution:
screw Husky and their customers. I think a class action suit would be in order. Screw KTM and BMW for a change. The 6th and 7th largest motorcycle dealers should not be able to do what everyone thought they would do; and watched them do it 3 years straight without a single word of oversight.

I am reading this along with the other info and coming to the conclusion that BMW have ceased the support.
MOSS = Motorrad Online Service System...it is online back to BMW in the Fatherland.

Has the Fatherland cut the connection with MOSS and your dealer, or is your dealer having to send the old MOSS back because BMW have developed a new system?

I read of MOSS being re-configured...by who and how and why? What does it connect to...the Fatherland presumably.

I read of KTM developing OSS and it will have Husky support built in - but who has it, how does it work and what is the cost?

I know there are two different ECU maps in the TR, I am pretty sure mine has the old one as it is a 2013 model. My mate has a 2014 bike and he has various mods including the swing arm drain holes and his bike runs a whole lot better than mine ever did. I wonder if his map is newer than mine, but I am not sure as his bike still has the MAP II on the dash at start up check. All I know is I would like to try his map and getting my bike MOSSd and possibly updated was my plan.

Bottom line is...as far as I know there is only one MOSS tool in the Philippines and it resides in Manila with apparantly occasional trips to Cebu for service of the Huskys here - or it did !
If that MOSS tool is now useless on Huskys because BMW have ceased support or developed a new system for their bikes, what is next?

In fact what is next for all the guys out there in places with limited or no full dealer support ?

If I ask the guys here who have BMWs in remote places they talk of using a laptop and a CD program to 'fix' things, including removal of the 'Service' indicator. Question is - will it work on a Husky, or is there a system around that will do the same thing?

If I end up with no 'online' or fancy support for my bike, it is not really a problem so far as routine maintenance is concerned as I do all that myself anyway, but I would be in trouble if I got any electronic issues with the ECU that required a fix.

Soon my 'service' indicator will light up and I know that the dealer does not have a MOSS tool yet somehow they say they are able to reset it - HOW?

When will there be a system that we can all download and use on our laptops to 'fix' our bikes ?
 
I posted this explanation in a different thread, but I believe the information is very important to TR-650 owners, so I will post it here as well.

At the beginning of June, 15, I took my Strada to the Husky dealer in San Diego County, Calif. My bike stalled at slow speed, sputtered at warm-up, and at high speed (60mph+) the check engine light came on and then I felt a "rev-limiter type bump" and the engine would stall if I pulled the clutch in for any length of time.
Well the dealer found that I had a bad crankcase sensor.

This problem was diagnosed with the NEW KTM diagnostic tool for the TR-650s, not the MOSS tool. The dealer has both but they are junking the MOSS tool since they are a Ducati/Husky dealer and have no use for the MOSS tool. The Service Manager said KTM is delivering the correct diagnostic tool for the TR-650s to any dealer in the USA who will pay for the monthly rental fee for the device. Since it can also diagnose all the new KTM's, the service manager said he assummed that TR-650 owners should soon be able to go into any KTM/Husky dealer and get their bikes ECU updated and diagnosed if a problem shows up.

My bike has over 13,000 miles on it and runs like new. The engine is stock, no mods. I hope that by the end of the year, KTM makes good on delivering this system to their dealers, worldwide.
 
If your interested in your own diasgnostic tool that will cost you more in time than money to set up, pm me. It will remove dash spanner, reset service interval, reset TPS, Idle actuator and Adapative learning, view all sytems (live) etc, etc,etc.
 
I'm new to the TR...bought a used '13 about 6 weeks ago with 11.5k miles on it (now have almost 13k), so I'm still learning the quirks. The previous owner advised that it had been "MOSS'ed", and it runs great with no stalling. Am I now to assume that I will have a "Service" light that illuminates at a regular interval, and what is the interval?

Exactly 10,000klms - I was out in the Centre of Australia, "back of beyond" when mine came on !!
