  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husky parts ect questions

Husqvarna
Hello all,

I never owned a Husky before and was thinking of getting the new 2011 TE 310 but have a few questions.

Where is the best place to order parts online for selection?
Where is the best place to order parts online for price?

Is the prices for Husky parts more then KTM? I usually by all my part form KTMtalk and get a 10% discount off retail to boot.

One draw back I see is resale. Husky’s are not that popular up here in the NW have not seen any on the trails. Need to get out and ride more I guess.

The positive side of getting the TE310, looks like it’s the best under 450cc dual sport bike around.

Any other pro and cons of a Husky in the garage?

Thnx

I would go to Taskys, they have a lot of parts in stock and are local to us. The husky prices seem to be inline with the other manufacturers. I am thinking about upgrading my 2005 TE 510 to one of the 2011 310s myself. I will have more time on the trail to wait for my friends though.

I just went through a three week waiting period for new valves, and paid $150 each... With KTM, with KTMTalk discount (20% if your a life time member) I can get them shipped in two days from Texas for around $90 each - so I wasn't too tickled with that.. The TE310 is actually quite popular in the northwest and the whole husky line is getting out there more and more.. in my riding group there are five husky owners now and just a year ago, there was only one. If KTM sold a street legal version of the 400EXC or better yet, the new 350, I'd probably be all over it. You pay more up front for a KTM, but with the KTMTalk discount, and the tens of thousands of bikes out there, buying used or take off parts makes the parts supply plentiful, and cheap. If I didn't want/need the plate, I would probably have went for the KTM 250 XCFw or 400 EXC, especially after going through what I just went through getting mine running again, and the hassles with getting the FI just right etc.. But right now the 310 is hands down the best choice in the market place for a street legal, trail worthy mid size thumper, especially with the changes to the 2011 model.

robdogg, what year and model do you have? I just put a deposit on a '11 310. Hoping no valve issues with that model!

Not a KTM/Husky bash, however my experience with Huskies from 2004 on (450, 510,450 now 310) has been one of singularly reliable function. Not one mechanical failure and only replaced consumables. In that context I cannot say my riding chums have the same experience with their KTM's. Lots of oil dissapearing issues -last count six crank case splits on 3 bikes, valve issues on 2X 2009 exc 450's and finally an addmitance that they need about 100 mls of oil per 100 klms. Now that is not too comforting for me and that is excatly why I stick with Huskies. Their reliabiliy and internal robustness is excellent. My new 310 is the first efi bike I have owned, the dealer (Trooper Lu's) did a great job getting the bike bush ready and its going great guns. There is a lot of mystique about the KTM brand and it has been hard and fairly one. In the past 2-3 years there is a real perception of quality slippage-accorded to the drains the Dukes put on the company and subsequent redirection of resources to get them out the door. Huskies have been in a state of managed but controlled line improvement since the 03/04 models came out. They are now the equal of any bike and better than many. As for parts, yes there are more KTM dealers, however at least in Oz parts are same day for most or 2-3 days at worst. I can live with that

I totally agree with you Robdogg about the KTM parts, new 350 dualsport ect. With the new state law taking my plate away from my 200 I need a bike that is somewhat comparable to my 200 and is street legal to boot. I ride my 200exc like a 4 stroke like to use the low end power band and mostly run in 2-3rd gears on the trails.

Wish Taskys could have their demo days sure would like to test ride the 310 and see if I really like it. Was thinking of getting a KTM 450 street legal but really do not need the extra power but would come handy for a quick Cruise down the highway.

Taskys had a 08 250/310 for sale but was sold before I could get up there and take a look at it.

Planning on taking a trip to Taskys when the new 310 come in and take a look.
