  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

After having my 08 m450r's motor fail after 130 miles, I have waited over 2 months to have it repaired under warranty and I am no further along now than when I brought it in. I have read other posts in other forums and found people in the same situation that I am. I do believe that the people invoved want to get me riding again and have tried a somewhat questionable and definitely failed repair but at this point I do not think I should have to be without a bike any longer. I want to buy another bike and have an attorney do the wor to get my money back for this one. I know it will take a while to get my money back but I have enough now to purchase an aprillia and be without the money for the husky for a couple years.
Any other suggestions or ideas?
 
Have your dealer contact corporate and explain you don't want to wait any longer? Maybe get him to talk to Rob Keith?


Once you start talking about lawyers in many organizations that is when hope for an amicable resolution ends... I really don't know if that applies to Husqvarna.
 
See if you have a lemon law in your state....looks like you do.

I know someone who blew the engine on his Aprilia SM......he is now suing the dealer......

Taking to a lawyer is my last resort and I already told the shop owner that I would give them at least until the weekend to come up with another solution. I did contact the reps at husky and I believe they want to help but they have not been able to offer me a solution yet, in fact the shop asked them for a new motor a couple weeks ago becuase both crankcase halves were damaged as well as the jug and most internals. The aftersales rep from husky visited the shop to look at the motor and ordered all new parts, he was aware the the shop tech had never opened up one of these motors before. He would not authorize the shop to take the motor out of the other 08 450 they have and said there were no other motors available. Now the bike is finally back together and after starting it up it is making te exact same nise inside the crankcase that it tarted making a couple months ago when I brought it in.
Since I started havig this problem I have done literally hundreds of hours of research into both the husky's and aprillia's. I love the husky and know of many people that have been trouble free. I also am very aware of the issues with the 07 aprillias. I want my husky but what bothers me is I only had it and used it a few hours before it broke, now I've been waiting months to get back on it, I would not say that aprillia is a better or more reliable bike, it is very comparable, what makes it seem like a better choice is this. When I was at the shop today listening to my bike, I asked about an aprillia that was right next to it and was told that it had been having engine problems too but the manufacturer sent a new motor that had just been installed. I am still hopeful that I will be taken care of as well but after 2 months and a very questionable solution that turned out just as I expected, I do not have too much confidence and have to decide when it is time to cut my loses.
I am aware of the 30 day lemon law in CT, but I do want to give a fair chance for everyone involved to act on this.
Where do I draw the line, what would you do?
 
Please PM me the aftersales rep & shops name. I've got a hunch who they are but would like confirmation.
 
Aprillia? I know of at least 6 customers/dealers who are in litigation with Aprilia right now over warranty issues. That would be the last bike I would buy.
 
My 07 te450 had issues awhile back. First it dropped an exhaust valve which was warrantied (new head piston cyl etc), took about 5 weeks. Then it lost a crank & the rod went thru the bottom of the cases denting the skidplate underneath. That took 9 weeks (new cases crank piston cyl, was told it was almost all new) but when it came back to me it had no further problems. If you dig the husky I'd be patient. When I went back for the 09 te450 they took care of me, as the price was lower than the 07. Good did arise from it after all. Good luck
 
It sounds like your bike is up and running, no?

Your post reads (to me) that you are simply now 'unsure' (my word) of the bike because you 'hear something' when the motor is running, and this sound is similar or the same as a sound you heard of the motor before it broke.


If this is the case, and only the case, then i would say simply:

Bring the sounds to the attention of the dealer/mechanic. If they think the bike is ok, and the sound is nothing, then:

Go ride the bike, and dont worry about it. If it breaks again, then OK, you hand them the bike and sue them. Hey you asked what to do, thats what I would do.

But right now you sound like you are in simply an anxious state, and maybe a helpful post on the internet will get you up and riding, where you should be.

Maybe its just a Husky bike sound, and not related to anything at all.

Sorry to read you had a bad experience. IMO customer service is not as good as it used to be, and its sad to read stories like yours. Husky used to be totally stand up, take care of the riders no matter what.
Im not sure why its changed, but it does seem to be different than it used to be. Hopefully it will go back to the excellent customer service it used to be. My guess is that in time it will.

More info about what exactly was wrong with your motor would be really helpfull (so we can all watch for it and see if its a one off problem or a trend), as well as what the 'questionable' fix was, and why it took so long.
 
The original noise was the crankbearing guide coming apart and chewing up the whole motor. The noise it is making now is identical and the shop ill not give the bike back to me because they tried test driving it in their parking lot and it wont even run right. Both techs agree that it is something major in the crankcase again and the shop owner promised to call husky and beg for a new motor or bike monday to get me back on the road, he also told me that they have never been inside one of these motors until now and they asked husky for a new motor, but none were available.
He showed me the crankcase that was taken off and one side the bearing guide or retainer was snapped in half and the case was chewed up, the other side was bent and the case chewed up. The bie was running perfect for me and then on my 3rd ride it started making the noise, I drove it 1/4 mile at like 2000 rpm and it was sputtering all the way, it does the same thing now and if you give it throttle the noise gets much worse.
 
WOW what grief. I waited for a kickstarter shaft that was on backorder for 16 weeks, other than that,my 07 510 has been stone reliable. The oem parts problem is so awefull with husky . Hope all works out.
 
It looks like this might be taken care of by the weekend, the shop said that husky is sending a new bie and they will uncrate it right away for me. If they do what they say I might be riding by the weekend!!! I'll let everyone know what happens
 
its what you deserve mate after 130 miles and its making noises like that and they cant fix it they should do the right thing and give you a new bike after all your showing loyalty to them in buying there product in the first place they should return the favor beause after all if no one bought there product because of bad publicity of there product they wouldnt be in buisness****************************************
 
Yeah, you do indeed deserve a new bike, not just because yours went all to crap, but becuase you have been pateint and understanding with them. This way, everyone wins-you get the awesome bike and they don't have to submit to the lemon law. Everybody gets along and everyone is happy. If this thing works out for you and they do what they say they will do, they might be worth doing business with again. Congrats. Hope it works out for you.
 
Right now, the customer service from motofit and husky is a+. It was a very slow start and Ive been without a bike for a couple months but Mike at Motofit has called me numerous times everyday this week to let me know what is going on and he has been doing everything he can to get the new bike ready for me asap. I really appreciate this because I am not sitting around wondering if any one is doing anything to get this fixed. This kind of service makes you feel much more comfortable spending money on a husky. I am still waiting to verify with husky that my bike was sent out this morning, I should know when it is arriving by tomorrow.

A few years ago Rob Keith used to post on TT when stuff like this happened (not all that often. Huskys are awesome) and anyway, he would personally take an interest and get it sorted out.

I swear he sold DOZENS of bikes everytime he did this. It was the best ever brand building move. The internet buzz is what sells bikes. Not magz.

Your story is now a very powerfull and satisfying story for us all. Especially after all the OEM parts crap they have put us thru, its freakin great to read things are getting back on the awesome Husky track.

As for those bearings--im a bearing guy. All my family is, for like 50 years and 3 generations. The French made crank bearings in the Husky are good, and the design is good. The journals do sometimes plug up, and if i had to guess id say some new bike shavings clogged yours.
But not to worry. its a good set up. :thumbsup:

I know he sold me when he help the fellow on TT personally. Called the dealer the next week and bought my bike. :)

The internet is indeed quite influential in such matters, *huge*.
 
I've talked with Rob a bit and he has been very helpful. Also I have dealt with Richard Kenton, he is the Aftersales manager at Husky NA. He has bent over backwards helping me in times of need.

The fact my bike has been pretty much a rock reliability wise is a bonus. To have people like this just makes it all worth it.
