• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Wont fit?

Chuck, I love it when people say that wont fit or work. Its just metal? Nice looking bike. I have been thinking about putting a later waterpumper 4 stroke in one of my early chassis. Soon as I get the other projects done...........

funny you should say that, ill be selling a nice 86 water cooled 510 in the next couple days, watch for it on the want to sell board..

sorry, not a lot of pics of that bike, that day, i landed hard off a table top, and broke my leg, tore a ACL, and pointed my foot the other direction..
still finished, and won, havnt raced an AHRMA MX since..

Technical reason why

From a technical perspective, what was the reason for doing the swop ?
If the 4T came out of the twin shock ice cream chassis, then what advantage is there to using the 390/430 chassis ?

I thought they weighed the same and had the same overall geometry, except for the White XC which should have a longer wheelbase..

Please don't keep me in suspense.

couple reasons.
first, AHRMA doesnt let the 84 and up 510,s at least at that time..82-83 were legal.
second.
the bike that engine came from was a 86 aircooled bike single shock disc brake bike.
and at that time not AHRMA legal.
it was, and stiil is tough to find a 83 to 86 510 air cooled bike here.
and when you do, they are usually turds,
i like the 82,s and the way thay handled, iv been on Huskys since the 70,s and like the slow steering.
and last..
i had the 82 bike already in my stable, and at that time had well over 50 Huskys, and really didnt need to search for a 83 up bike, and the Auto that was in the bike was thrashed,
the 86 was a clean low hour bike, all that was needed on the engine was a side cover gasket, and a good oil change,
notice i had to modify the frame to use the stock airclear assembly, took some work but it was well worth it.
i really wanted to have dual pipes, but no way it could be done, and still have a safe frame, that would take hard race use.
and in 83 the frames changed a bit, to house the new air box assembly, and a few other issues.

Chuck,
Do you remember what you did to the frame, in the carb area.
I'm planning on doing the same project with my 86 510 putting it into
a 81 250CR frame. I test fit the motor in the frame & it fits, but
the carb was way too close to the frame tube, & also didn't find
motor mounts that would work yet, so i figured i'd have to
make some.

I've only just got the bike (510) in the original frame running &
rideable, so the next step will be the frame swap .

had to remove the right side suport section, and relocated it, you loose a little strength, but not enough to worry about.look were the aircleaner sits in the pictures.
