    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Husky tr650 strada idling really high after warm up

Whats up guys. I'm new here although I have been reading from CafeHusky for a while. I have a 2013 Husky tr650 Strada. I love this bike. It is spool much fun. Recently it started giving me a problem. I was riding around downtown Huntsville Alabama in the sweltering heat and my bike got a little hot but not dangerously hot. All of a sudden it's like the throttle was getting stuck. I'd let off the throttle and it would stay in the 3500 to 4000rpm range. I can start it up now and it will idle fine for a minute or so and then it goes to idling really high. I installed a brand new at-xied on it yesterday thinking it might override the problem but it didn't. Last week I put a new o2 sensor on it and that didn't fix it. I was reading somewhere on here about resetting the sensors by holding the start button for 2 seconds after startup but that didn't work either. But when the bike does revv up high I can push the start button and it comes back down to regular idle. Someone suggested to me it may be the coolant temp sensor. Any suggestions? Please?
 
Thanks for the info. I will take a look after work. I'm anxious to get it fixed so I can see the results of this af-xied gadget. I've heard lots of good things about it.
 
Along the same lines as dmw_az... Check the evap canister hoses. There is also a switch for the evap canister under the right side panel just behind the frame. If all the hoses look connected, try disconnecting the throttle body side hose of this switch and plugging it. Disconnecting the electrical connector from this switch may work as well, without having to disconnect the hoses.
 
I found the switch and disconnected it because in order to get to all the hoses I'll probably have to remove the side panels and the gas tank. After disconnecting the switch I did see an immediate difference although the idle did seem to fluctuate somewhat. Sometimes up to 2200rpm and back down to around 1800rpm. I don't know what this switch is and what it does. If you could tell me maybe I could better understand what it does. I do think that there may be another vacuum problem somewhere. Its just a matter of tracking it down. Right now I have the battery disconnected. In a little bit I will try an ecu reset. I have done it already but I did not wait until the fan kicked on. This time I will and see what happens. I would like to remove the canister but I really want to make sure I do it right. Is that the same as a smog controller like on certain Honda's? Anyway. I'll post my results after the ecumenical reset. Thank you all for your input. If you think I need to try something different please let me know!
 
Well. I did the ecu reset after disconnecting that switch but before I did it I disconnected my new af-xied module. This time it idled as it should although it still seemed to idle down a little slow. As I understand, over time the af-xied will produce better throttle response. When I hook it back up I'll do as the instructions suggest and run a few tanks of gas through. But as hasenpfeffer suggested that I unhook that switch it did do something and I do thank you! I will sometime in the near future figure out how to remove that canister and also learn this af-xied module but if you have any suggestions Please let me know! And once again, THANK YOU!
 
Interesting as I had the same thing happen a couple of days ago. I'd just accidentally over gapped Pulstar plugs and threw them in. Because of what I'd read about them be a cure for the stalling, I also turned my af-xied down to a 4 setting. Bike idle ran 3k. Hmmm. Turned af_xied to 7 and properly gapped the plugs and she's back to running like a dream. My own fault for doing 2 things at once. Try your ax-fied around 7 or 8 and it'll likely smooth out.
 
All I can say is WOW! It really is like a new bike! I disconnected that switch, which I have learned is the purge valve, and I did the ecu reset correctly, with my af-xied disconnected, and it seemed to idle correctly. After that I shut it off and reconnected my new af-xied module. It seemed to idle a little high but if I remember from past forums I read it was supposed to! Anyway. I took off on a good long ride and all I can say is WOW! Forget the damn recall and the free remapping of the ecu! As I understand it will only get better with this af-xied thingy! On this, my first tank of gas, with the factory setting, absolutely NO stumbles whatsoever! Plus 5th gear pulls like 3rd! I cant wait to run a few more tanks of gas and up the setting to 8! If you havent got this af-xied thingy then I hate that you're missing out! And thanks for the info on the purge valve! Next I'll do the whole canisterectomy! Husky on!
 
It could be the Idle Actuator.?? have you had and engine warning light come on? How many k's has it done and has it backfired much when running..? They can get dirty/sooty and it doesnt hurt to clean it but its a time consuming job.

Is there a guide on here to do it? Looking to do mine and just seeing how much time i need to set aside for the job.
 
The idle actuator is screwed to the side of the throttle body. Unfortunately, getting to it requires removing the air box. Removing the air box is a PITA. Once you get access to the throttle body, cleaning the idle air actuator is a piece of cake.

Raymond: And you might as well check your valves at this time.
When its all sorted, enjoy the extra torque of the afxied.
