As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!

What is the usual range of temperatures in which we'll be riding?
I just want to make sure I bring the appropriate gear so that I'm neither freezing nor roasting.
Thanks,

Anybody want to rent me one?
BCVisin;62939 said:Sorry buddy. I would loan you one of my radios, but my girlfriend and I use them every time we ride. Since we are not going on this trip we have plans to go ride and camp out in the dez over new years, and will be using both radios then.

We will be on VHF 151.490 (Best in the Desert frequency) Please make sure its programmed into your radio.
I added that and more info at the first post on page one.![]()
xymotic;63040 said:Somebody asked in another thread if I was sure it was not 151.940. which in the states is an unlicensed freq (which would make more sense) so I just wanted to double check that .490 is correct?
glangston;63141 said:I mentioned this before but will repeat the offer.
I have a SPOT I will loan someone if they would like to have one on them. Fun for the folks at home to follow too.
Yossarian;63145 said:I would be happy to take you up on your offer.
Thank you!
glangston;63147 said:Do you plan on stopping by George's shop (Uptite) in Santa Ana on the way down? If so, I'd just leave the unit in a box with him. I'll put in the holder and RAM mount (although I think it's better to just carry on the person) and the instructions and passwords information. I'm heading off on a trip for a week or so, but will be back by Dec. 20-21.
Yossarian;63160 said:Yes, Gary (BentAero) and I plan on pulling into Uptite the afternoon of the 26th. I can put another RAM ball on my clamp if the unit needs to be level and open to the sky, else I will carry it on my person and activate it as needed.
Thanks again; my wife will enjoy getting some "OK" messages.![]()
