• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husky Trip to the Tip

NorCal-
If you now use 15-47, then just get a new chrome moly rear 17 (like Ironman) and then you can go back to 15-47 when you get home.

While the difference between 16-46 and 16-47 is 'detectable' it is very minimal on the top end, but more nociable on the bottom end.

16-46 is tall for slower 1st gear type riding, and we will have a few spots like that on days 3-6, and in those areas a 47 rear might be helpful for mid-level riders.

If your stock set up was 15-48 i would say go with a new rear 48 for the same reasons.

Hope that makes sense.

IMO the best set up is DID ERV3 chain, AFAM front and Ironman rear.

Huh? Did you mean 17 front?

Anyone arriving in LAX on the 25th and, if so, what hotel are you staying at or suggestions for same?

Questions

1. What oil is best for Baja and this trip 10/60 or 20/50 or ?/? ? Agip Synthetic or Spectro Offroad syn blend?

2. What size Camelback is recommended?

3. Any video set up recommended that works well with cutting out wind noise? Would like to document this trip and have for future trips.

4. Any need for rain gear?

5. I have in boot MX pants (x3) but none of them vented. Would prefer not to purchase anymore but are vented pants in Baja much needed?

Working on the bike's last bits. Tires and tubes are now on the way, and I have new chain & sprockets just waiting for when the wheels are off. Planned gearing is 15/47.

New oil is in the bike, and if we are doing one oil change @ Loreto, I should be okay bringing 2 qts, correct? I thought George said 4 qts, but can't figure out to do with the extra 2.

Ummm, he thought you were bringing a Harley?

Don't forget to pick up a couple of those paper funnels from the auto parts store.

Fishing Anyone?

OK, I want to be very clear, and upfront tell you that this may not happen, I accept no responsibility if you make plans and this falls through etc etc.

However, my neighbor is currently in Cabo Falso on his 54' Bertram Sportfisher. I have taken the liberty of inviting us onto his YACHT for a day of fishing after we arrive in Cabo.

If you don't like fishing, there will also be competitive drinking available.

If you're interested let me know so I can get a head count and inform the captain.

Very cool idea!

I'll be there with my family (wife and two sons, ages 11 and 10). Not sure if the fishing setup would accomodate all of us, but I'm pretty sure I'd be in big doo doo if I abandoned them for an entire day after spending the big $ to get them there.

they're welcome. The boat can hold 20 or so, and the owner/crew will be 4 I think. There may be some rough language but It might be worth it to catch a nice Marlin.

Can I put you down for 4 tentatively? This whole thing is tentative really til I can confirm with my neighbor.

Extremely cool and generous offer.

I would suggest talking on the phone might be an excellent way to communicate at this point. It's really hard to communicate certain aspects via a forum, especially when it comes to family. Could be an excellent experience for them. Being on the water is always special, a 100x more special in a foreign country and the memories could last a lifetime.

Add 3 more please. Me, my dad and my girlfriend. That sounds absolutely bitchen! It would be so awesom to go out On the water after riding for 7 days. If this works out count us in!

Yes, you may put us down. I thank you for the offer. If it does not come into reality, nothing lost.
