    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Positive Response from RV Aqualine - TE610

After reading the posts in this thread that suggested RV Aqualine might be considering a tank for the FI TE610s, I sent them an email stating my interest in such a tank. I just received this reply:

"Hi Howard,

Thank you for your enquiry, at this stage we are consider making a tank for
the TE610, nothing has been confirmed yet but if you wanted to contacted us
again in about 6 weeks we should a lot more information to give you. We
would be interested to know if we do make a tank what capacity you would be
looking for.

I just wrote back and said that personally I'd hope for a 6+ gallon tank, and that I probably wouldn't purchase a tank that held less than 5 gallons. If I hear more, I'll let you all know.

Should people give feedback on what size aftermarket tank they should make in this thread? Or even start another thread with a poll?
 
To get the ball rolling -- I'd be looking for a tank that allows me to 70 miles or so at a race pace. Probably around 3.0 to 3.4 gallons -- somewhere in there.

Not that it matters, but I can't tell you how much it irritates me that after spending around $8k for a bike you need to turn around and spend another $300 for a tank. For that kind of coin, it would be nice to get a bike set up for off-roading. JMO.
 
A 5 gallon tank for the IE 610 would be nice. I hate having to pack extra gas. The range on my 08 610 wasn't bad until I put the "power-up" kit on. It's not coming off though.:D

I guess it would be too much to hope for, that a 5 or 6 gallon tank would look nice on the bike too.

what mpg do you get with the power up kit on?
 
My vote for a '08 TE610 tank is 5.5 US gallons,

I would hope the tank uses the stock fuel pump to its advantage, meaning the fuel is held as low as possible, and the tank is as thin as possible. Without the power up kit this should allow a 250+ mile range. With the power up kit range should still be close to 200 miles, and thats plenty.

The tank should allow for a steering dampner, and should have bottom braces.

The fuel pump should be protected.

Brass inserts for a fairing would be nice (Acerbis large adventure tanks have them)


Tank ideally should have screw in fiberglass cover-alls to keep the fuel temps down, and so it can be painted, etc. Just like the Mecca tanks.

In case they are monitering this thread I would like to add my .02.
I like all of Mikes thoughts on what to build. I wouldn't have bought my 08 except that my dealer assured me that a big tank would be out soon.........
The only thing I might add is that I like white tanks so I can see the fuel level.
You can't use this bike for what it was intended for without more range.

I don't know what mpg is, but it's about 40 kilometers a tank less now with the power up kit on.

Thank you for your enquiry, the Husky tanks are still going ahead but because there is still a lot of design and development to be done I do not have a lot of information at this stage but it is looking like they will available towards the end of the year. Feel free to contact us again in a few months or keep an eye on our web site for updates.

I sent another inquiry to RV Aqualine:

"When I last contacted you about a tank for the TE610 I was told we might see something by the end of the year. Any updates?'

Response:

Thank you for your enquiry, we are running behind schedule on the development of the husky tanks and they are definitely not going to be ready by the end of the year. The tanks are definitely going ahead but at this stage I do not know when they will be available. Feel free to keep in touch, I apologize that I could not give you more accurate information.

Really ...? So they *are* still working on something, eh? I like it! My IMS is nice, but still not big enough ...
 
Okay, some more updates ... I got a response from Aqualine proper, as well as their US distributors at Just Gas Tanks. Aqualine said

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your enquiry, we are making a tank for your bike it is going to be about 14 to 16L, most of the pattern work is complete but at this stage it is very hard to say when the mould and all of the fittings will be complete. If you want to contact me towards the end of February I should have a lot more information.

and Just Gas Tanks confirmed that it would be "around 4 gallons" but no dates yet.

Sooo ... a bit more information, I guess. Wish it had been closer to 5 gallons, though. I asked about rear/side tanks, but didn't get an answer on that.

I agree with OldJR. I think our current tanks are 12.5 liters (3.3 gallons). 14 liters would be about 3.7 gallons, not even a half gallon increase. Sixteen liters would be about 4.2 gallons, still not even a gallon improvement, although almost. Assuming that an Aqualine tank would cost at least $200 and probably closer to $300 or $400, it doesn't seem worth it. I wonder if Nicole was confusing plans for other FI Huskys that I've heard rumored?

I have decided to go with my 7 litre fuel cell until i can get a bigger tank for my 610 TE.

Ah, true - I have a 510, so she might have been talking about that tank (as stock is only 1.9, and the IMS tank is 3).
