  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

husqvarna TE450 vs BMW G450X

So I am looking to replace my KTM with something fuel injected. The KTM is already gone and I have both an 09 BMW 450 and Husky 450.

BMW has 150 miles and Huky has 600. Both have light mods and available for great prices.

So, which should I go with? I am a C Senior rider and mostly ride trails and a few dual sport events. I am not a racer.

All opinions welcome.

Wait a few months and get the new TE450 when it comes out. It features the BMW based motor in a Husky designed chassis! However if your only considering the two used bikes you have mentioned either would be great. I suggest you get the one you can get a better deal on. I personally have an 09 TE510 and love it. Its easy to maintain, makes great tractable power, and handles very nicely, however the huskys are not with out their quirks. It needed the "power up" kit to run right, the up-tite coolant hose "Y" to take full advantage of the right radiator, my foot is larger than a size 6 so I needed an extended shift lever tip, and the stock chain was garbage, among other small details. But half the fun of owning a bike is modification/personalization! Sorry I don't have any first hand experience with the BMW.

Solid reply - thank you.

I am focused on the 09's. Another TE poped up in my area since I posted this with less than 50 miles.

I can basically get them both for the same price. I want the BMW because I am a BMW (currenty have a 1200GT but had a 1200GS and a G650X) guy (but have also had 3 KTM's) but hear such mixed reviews that I don't know what to think. You only really know once you have owned the bike yourself! I do know they won't be making the g450x anymore. I beleive that is a 100% fact at this point.

Any other opinions?

You sold the KTM, and you are considering buying one of the other 2 bikes? Or you already own those 2 bikes?

Sorry for the confusion - I mean I have both a used 09 BMW g450x and Husky TE450 available to me locally.

More people on this forum have experience with the 2009 450 design compared to the BMW. The Husky is a good durable motor and the efi was decent. If you really want a used efi Husky that would be a good one to get.

I've no experience with the BMW.

Why do you catagorize the husky EFI as "decent"? What works well/not well about it? Also, do you know what the recomended service schedule is on the Husky?

I took both 2008 and 2009 efi bikes to dynojet and some other testing on other 2008s. The 2008s are uber rich when they are 'powered up' compared to the 2009s. The 2009s run well.

In addition some models of the 2008s & 2010s should have the ecu reflashed, which is not a big deal.

The efi is reliable, except the tank pick up lines need some care, sometimes the 'ties' that hold it in place do not do their job and the tank needs to be opened up and put the pick up line back where it is supposed to be.

The 2009 450 and all the other engines are *incredibly* reliable and the valves do not move. Many people check valve clearance every 2000 miles. Oil changes and air filter cleanings about as often as other bikes. Tires, tubes, crash damage and all that other stuff needs to be attended to as well.

There is much information in the other threads :)

The BMW 450's come with a 3 year warranty. That's unheard of for a dirt ready bike.
