  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna TE510 2005 burning/drinking oil

Hi all. Be easy with me as this is my very 1st post on the Husky cafe. And I must say waht a top place this is. ;)

I need help. Ive checked forums, scanned google and hunted for info, alas, still cannot find why....

My 510 2005 in consuming engine oil like its going outa fashion. There is loads of white smoke coming out of the rear pipe and im guessing its burning oil big style. The bike is using around a litre of 10/50 oil every 50miles. There does not seem to be any loss of power, no strange noises, infact the bike is running sweet.

Im guessing the rings may have gone and need replacing. Or could it be something else? values, guides? etc

Service history:
-Oil and filters changed every 10 hours of light use
-metal filters cleaned
-no large particals on sump magnet
-air filer cleaned and oiled
-no rattles or noises
-running and starting fine

Anyway, if it is the rings, advise on where to purchase piston, barrel and rings would be great. Im in London, England so a UK supplier would be great.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and please, if you have any advise dont hesitate to reply, even if its basic stuff.

Steve

I'd phone HuskySport firstly for advice and then potentially for parts mate.

I'm new to Huskys and they've been top fellas up to now with answers etc.

I would venture a guess at valve guide seals. The piston and rings in these bikes are VERY long lasting.

and yes, good advise.

Thanks for the quick replies. Valve seals should be easyish. Anyone got a guide for conducting the work? I may even do a video :-) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nj3XmZ7YBM )

Spoke to Husky sport and they say it sounds like a new piston kit is required. £215 for the real husky kit. As this is just a green laner / play bike I would rather spend less.

Any ideas where I can get a patterned / no original cheaper for my TE510.

Tnxs again guys. Looks like I may be out in the snow again very soon.

I've not used 'em yet personally, but Taliesin Racing may well be worth a call:

I'll probably be doing the top end on my 450 this winter if it ever gets warm enough to venture out to the shed. :)
