• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

HUSQVARNA1 CR500

Seems like a very good engine. Very broad powerband. Soft and usable down low. Builds power steadily and relentlessly to a major mid-top. No surprises and easy to ride. Very easy to start - literally on the first kick every time if I use my right foot (My left foot is still learning.) It is in amazing condition and the quality of the workmanship on the paint and powder coating of the frame is first rate! Steers more with the throttle than the bars, compared to my other bikes and has the excellent stability I was looking for. High speeds are this bike's domain!

Can anyone tell by looking if I have CR suspension on this bike? I suspect it may be but don't know how to tell for sure. I know some of the gurus can tell with a glance..

Oh ya, and I almost forgot. The vibes on this bike are not near as bad as they were on my '85 500xc. Ya, you can feel 'em but not any worse than other big bores I have ridden. Also, the seat on this thing is the most comfortable I have ever had!

quickest way to tell if its a cr is to check for a "floating" rear drum.
judging from your pic it looks like xc suspension to me..which is cr ride height. tall...
those do not look like 84 wr forks either, as they have less underhang below the axle. maybe looks tall for a wr too. wr would have also had a rear frame loop, but yours may have been cut. im betting the whole bike is an xc.

Thanks Justintendo, I think you're right. It is hard to see in the picture but the forks are raised quite a bit in the triple clamps too, so they seem longer to me than WR.. The VIN makes it a WR but I think when it was rebuilt to look like Billy Grossi's works bike, XC or CR parts were probably used. At any rate, it rides and runs really great, so I'm happy regardless of where the parts came from : )

sure, no problem with a "custom built" swede! they interchange well. someone likely just cut off the rear subframe loop.

has anyone seen this on a VIN before

Hi, I have a bike with similar frame number. It is a 1986 500 Motocross, also has no engine number. Mine has been a bit of a curiosity in that it has a six speed gearbox, WR rear sub frame and headlight, but CR frame. Is yours the same?

not much curiosity..no engine numbers means replacement cases..someone likely just put a wr subframe on. these parts mix easily

Were the CR's six speeds back then? I thought they were 5 speeds. Do you have the rear brake with the link to the frame?

if you check the parts manual, you can see the two different fork sliders..wr and cr / xc along with the different damper rods. the shockers are altered by removing a travel limit spacer..voila! cr suspension on a wr = xc (plus a few other bits..)

the six speed is common, sub frame was probably replaced on yours, headlights were not possible on a stock CR due to the ignition being internal rotor with no generator for lighting circuit
