  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I got Panniers on my TE511

To remove rear fender loosen two screws...

The front bracket clamps the fender in a strong area...

I used a 20mm long 6m allen head bolt for less stress on the sub frame threads when torquing down the posts tight.

Sat 50 lbs on it and didnt flinch... (a little flex on the back cross mount)
Added some reflective trim to give it some safety and bling :D

cool but ya'll need to focus on getting those bikes dirty..

give us a report on how those do on some trails, where these bikes are meant to be.. i think i'd still prefer a heavy duty back pack for a dirt bike, leave the panniers for real dual sport bikes / adventure bikes

good job tho, quite an ingenius setup

Still room in the middle for .... ????

This was just a thought . After looking at the nomad tanks ( I like them) they are a hair too wide for my setup so now I will attempt to turn my rotopax into one(as time allows me ). The rotopax looks slightly lower profile also is a good reason and at $50 just sitting on my shelf for a year and a half why not :)

Will report forsure after a good ride with them. I usually run a fanny pack and a northface heavy duty backpack . I get my body loaded down with gear but hopefully these will lighten the load a little. I get tierd of taking the pack off all the time and would be nice if these work out. I never been on a dual sport ride , allways loaded up and drove to the. Never farther than a tank of gas and what I put in my pack can get me. These are made to come off and on easy but the design shouldn't stop me from going threw a real trail. The material is inexpensive if I smash them up and need to make parts. They are perfect to store a good light weight jacket , goggles , tools, Xtra oil ...... I can place them back farther still for the steep down hills when your sitting on the rear fender. I will test them at Chulkwalla first. They need to be narrow enough to go threw "the gates of hell" @ 1:10 ... They're gold if I don't get stuck :)

I keep 3 tools in my backpack (screw driver, flat head, and a set of hex wrenches).. a couple bottles of water.. and some snacks. Typically that is what I take every ride, my backpack has straps that wrap around to my front chest so it keeps the weight off my back.

I would be worried about a branch or something hitting those or getting stuck on the panniers, causing the bike to suddenly jolt to one side. I ride in the Northeast, so there are plenty of trails that you are brushing close against debris. Also - tipping the bike could prove disasterous - not sure how sterdy those are but yah...

And for longer rides -- well--- people don't ride 'dirt bikes' far cause they have a tendency to vibrate and have uncomfortable seats.

But each to their own, I appraise the work and your engineering capabilities - exceeds anything I could do!

Tire spoons, tubes, crescent , all in one tool , zip ties , stainless wire , CO'2 , gallon of water, monsters, food , flare gun, cigarets ..... Might have room for a bong and wiskey now lol JK

Hey amen to all that

I'm still waiting for a back rest for my 450 dirt bike so I can do some reclining when going from trail to trail.. next project maybe?? lol

I've always dreamed of some fold up back rest for rides on road - then when you get to trail, you can fold it down for extra cushion.

Oh sheet , just received a bright idea from my higher power for a fender / rotopax rack / back support ... Thank you who ever you are ! Hee hee :)

I crash so much I'm afraid your setup would only be wasted on me.
You never know they might give you better balance ! You could just fix what breaks from easy to find parts and make it yourself once you have it, duplicate replacement parts yourself. Hack-saw 11/32 drill tap, 10mm aluminum square rod , 1 1/4" by 1/8" aluminum strip .... A vice , file and grinder/sander. Hard cases cost $9 each at Sears. It looks decent enough for how cheap it costs. If you crash alot then this is the ticket !

If anyone would like a free( pay parts & shipping) pannier set for there 449/511 pm me . Just pay shipping and parts to build and post how they work for you on this thread with pics. PP $50 and will give preference to who posted allready :)

I cut out some rubber diamond plate anti slip sticky back for a fender protector /rack... Used the pannier mounts and a moto-tie to secure it .. Rotopax seem secure .... Time to drill holes in the Rotopax and insert ZipTy Racing Dry-Brakes for 3+ gallon capacity
