• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

If you loose your brake light...

I noticed last night on my Terra that the running light was really bright and i had no brake light. WTF? After a quick exam of the basics, i crawled under to look for the actuator switch. We all know the brake lever design is suspect to start with. There is a 1" tab On the lever that presses a little tab switch and keeps it closed when not pressing the brake. This tab is flimsy! I had a rock ding on the curve of the lever and that was enough to bend the tab and allow the brake light to be on full time. Easy fix, but something to be aware of. I've been holding out for a beefier skid plate to be developed, so riding offroad is like cookin' bacon naked...

Is that a little scuffing on the case too that we see there? Ya...you need a skid plate ASAP! Thanks for the tip.:)

Cookin bacon naked!:D

Hahah nah, that was just a mud/rain/wind streak on the engine. At first glance I thought the same thing!

Same thing happened today on the Strada after a dirt road excursion. Bent the tab back per the OP's post, and we have a working brake light again!

Thanks.

Just noticed my brake light was stuck on too. Found this thread and sure enough that little tab had been bent down, causing it to leave the tab switch open. Most likely caused by a blow to the underside of the foot brake. Easily fixed by bending the tab with pliers - there are advantages to having a bike made of stamped mild steel!

"For a permanent fix on a Strada... (the Terra is a straight 5 min job) . . ."

What he said, although I confess it did take ME more than 5 minutes. But it was inexpensive, as straightforward as can be, and eliminated that fail point.
