• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

If you have the possibility to install the system as I installed mine, am I sure that there's no way in H... the disc will move.
When I needed to adjust the position of my disc a bit, did I need to struggle and curse a lot to get it off the shaft.
If you need a piece of the 22mm stainless tube will I send it to you, just let me know.

Many thanks for the offer of the S/S.. The guy I'll ask to make what I want will probably have it lying around on his workshop floor. Will keep you posted.

Hi Bryll,

Quick question: Does the system need to be fully installed and powered on for the PC to see the black box? If I connect the Black box directly to the PC the software displays 'No Connection to PC' and when I click anything the program just locks up.... How do you program yours?

Kind Regards

Stu

You need to connect power the box separately, it's not powered by the RS-232 connector.

The program should not lock up when started without the box connected.
It might be that it locks when the box is connected to the pc without external power, I never tried that.

Please post the result of your installation, I'm quite curious of your thoughts about the system.

Hi Pete,

Quick question... What Base Advance angle did you set?

At the moment I am having a new flywheel machined which I can attach the rotor to. I feel that the engine might be prone to stalling if it has no flywheel at all. Have you come across this on your bike?

I'll post pics once it has been made.

Stu

My base advance is set to 1 degree and I the bike works just fine without the flywheel.
The internal motoplat is not much of a flywheel, so the weight of the crank is sufficient for my application.

Waiting for your pictures.

I know about a water cooled 2x500cc Folan, the thing is that the owner knows it's worth good money.
Just let me know and I'll try to get his email and phone number for you.
This guy has a shit load of Husky parts at his house, could be good to know him ;)

A very good friend got his hands on a air cooled 4x250cc Folan, I'll bet you can't find many of those these days

Hi Bryll
Do you have pics of that 4x250 Folan ?;)

hello bryll if you canget a email adress could you send it to my email adres please and can you send a picture of the 4x250 folan and some info and do you know the owner of the air cooled folan on youtube folan projekt 3 and 4 grease guido

The owner of the Folan equipped sidecar (project 3 and 4) is Erkki Salo.
He's a skilled sidecar driver from Finland in the vintage class.

I will take photos of the 4x250cc Folan when I visit that guy to help him get it up and running.
He lives about four and a half hours drive from me.
We usually meet at sidecar events here and there, I haven't been at his house yet.
He don't know how to use a computer  , so it's no chance that he can send me pictures of it.
I have asked him about it already.

ok thank you bryll for the info i also do not know very much with computers i ll let you know if i know something about the water folan

hello bryll do you know the name of the vintage sidecar in finland do they have a site or do you know how i can contact Erkki Salo .

Hi Bryll,

Here's the pics of my Install....ECU1_CH.jpgECU2_CH.jpgFlywheel on crank1_CH.jpgFlywheel on crank2_CH.jpgFlywheel1_CH.jpgFlywheel2_CH.jpg

Wiring is started but not quite finished. The ECU and Battery pack will mount over the air box on the cradle. Just need to make the bracket. The ECU is in a water tight box with foam around the ECU to reduce shock.

Stu

Cheers but I can't claim anything other than the drawing to have it made...

Made the bracket today....

It just slots in the frame so can be easily be removed to change the filter and replace the battery pack when needed. I have yet to spray it white. Next stop is the wiring and heat shrink of all cables... then connect the laptop, set the ignition up, fuel her up and..... fingers crossed it works.

Update:

Hi Bryll,

Ignition is now 95% installed. Enough to test by connecting the PC and downloading the ignition map you provided.

The system tested OK from the program and also when I passed a screwdriver past the sensor. Final prep for starting will be done over the next few days... Carb/Filter cleaning and installation.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks for all your help.

Stu
