  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

IMS Tanks for TXC 450s/disappointment

Rider400

Husqvarna
B Class
I just got an IMS tank for my '09 450TXC and can honestly say, it's VERY disappointing.

The directions ask you to cut here and there on the rad shrouds and do not have any inserts to take the top part of the shroud for reassembly. It seems that IMS could have put some inserts on so the top part of the shroud could have been assembled. The bottom shroud is hanging out and will definitely get hung up on my boots.

So, if you are thinking about getting an IMS tank for your Husky, I would try something else. It really boils down to Husky NOT making their stock tank a little bigger. The IMS was expensive and if I return it they will want a 20% restocking fee. Just a bad deal all the way around.

Hope this helps somebody in making their decision when adding fuel space to there new Husky.

IMS tank for TXC 450...

had the same problem with my TE...so close to fitting it's silly, the air box plastics and the radiator shrouds were the issue. Did you get it from Justgastanks.com. They took mine back with a couple of questions and refunded me the full amount. Good luck.

That's the catch, Dude. There is nothing else.

There is, a front number plate tank, it's a gallon. Some contramption that hangs out off the rear fender/side plate...

And then there is the "carry it in a container on your back or fanny pack".

I bought the tank through Malcolm Smith Motorsports, they have a 20% restock fee. I think IMS has 35% restock fee. Pick your poison.

Tell them the fit is horrible, not what you expected and see if they will be nice enough to refund in total. Never hurts to ask, they could always loose another customer for life that way.

And IMS completely farked us on leaving room for damper mounts even though almost everyone who might want a long range tank also runs steering dampers. :banghead:

Kelly, (I am not jabbing you I feel the same)

I take it from your posts “and in other threads also” that you may be a little disappointed with the fit of the IMS tank on the newer Husky's allowing enough room for a Damper setup. :banghead: I could be wrong but I think the Motosportz Damper may work with the other head post (Up-tite, BRP) if the arm is modified. Believe me, I am going to look into this and post up a response if I can get this handled before Christmas.

Now as far as larger tanks go, IMO Aqualine screwed the pooch by not offering a better solution. Since we are only offered the larger tank from IMS on these bikes, a jig with a hot plate may be what is needed to get the 90% close fitting tanks to work. We shall see, Stay tuned.

it should have have customers using Scotts posts and our damper.

I also am very disappointed with the IMS tank that I bought for my 2009 TXC 250. My main complain is the design of the tank. Rather than dropping the tank closer to the cylinder to add capacity they put it up in the radiator shrouds. Having all that fuel so high and forward on the bike is really detrimental to its handling. I've had good luck with their tanks in the past, but this tanks design is really an exception.

I can't believe you guys didn't look around before buying or at least seeing it in person first! One look and you can tell that a damper is going to be a hard fit (if at all), the weight is going to be carried high and you can't put the shrouds on without gluing them somehow. It's no secret about the IMS tank for 2008+ TE/TXC/TC's not being perfect (cracking & tight fit), but at least there is an option...one that I didn't partake in.

IMS Tank

It fit like a champ using a GPR V4 stabilizer. The overall quality and fit of IMS for this application is pretty dodgy. That said...I've got an RMZ 450 with a IMS tanks on it and it absolutely rocks.

Here's an older thread for any of the new members that have not seen it.

New look with the IMS Tank 2

Yes, that looks good but.....Why should we have to cut up our shrouds, the plastic kit is hard enough to get a hold of. IMS should have taken some more R&D time to figure out how to get the existing shrouds to fit. It appears that all they need are some mounting points to match up with the existing shroud holes.

It is always a disappointment when you buy something then have to get the hacksaw out to get it to fit properly.

motoplastic.com not real hard. He has the Cycra in stock. Good points on the rest.

Nawp...I don't. My tank was a clear...don't know if that matters...your black tank looks a little more rounded on the top than the clear tank did. I returned said tank because the radiator shrouds didn't fit and the airbox cover plastics stuck out about an inch. I fit the tank on 1rst and then slid the pin holder into place. It was a very tight fit...but it did fit. Also, do you have an 08 TE 450? That's the bike I had it fit on.
