• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Inside scoop FMF "long" Jarvis muffler

I think it's just that, gossip. Long silencer does not make long smooth power like on a 4 stroke.
I agree. I had an old Wes muffler on my KDX200 that I bought for it in 1988. It was about as long as a Lousiville slugger, and I actually had to trim the rear fender for the exhaust to clear it. It made the bike very quiet, as for smoothness, yes it flattened the powerband out and made the bike somewhat sluggish, and I thought it made the bike run hotter than it should. I recently bought a much shorter FMF universal muffler for that bike, and after I installed it, and started the machine, I immediately had to adjust the idle down. I expect the old beastie to run a little better down low, and run cooler now.

Long muffler=more packing(little less DB)=more weight=more stress on mountings and sub frame=more restriction=different power delivery=more heat=shorter engine life.
Why? maybe wanted to mellow out power delivery, make quieter? as Honda claims weight distribution for their twice pipes or just could be something new to sell.
Easiest way to kill power of a good pipe is with crappy muffler.

a little off topic- huge handling change made to my ex TE310 was the installation of the TC Ti muffler it cut the weight in half. and that weight is carries way aft of cg so over whoops the sprung weight forces were basically cut in half, or however the scientific formula works. LiFe battery with the muffler made the bike feel soo much lighter in all riding regimes.

Thanks, well said didn't want to get into aft CG, arm and moment.

Are we balancing aircraft? If so remember that sliding the CG aft will reduce some slow speed stablity, but makes aerobatics much more lively. Sliding the CG forward will make for a better slow speed end of the envelope, but your aerobatic capabilities will become somewhat diminished.

I really was serious. do the math @8 lbs bouncing through whoops at 35mph, or grab 8 lbs (@ weight of OEM TE silencer) and cycle it up and down/stop and go, then do the same for 4lbs @ 1/2 the weight. Think about how much force especially going down is put into the rear suspension and the leverage of that force being so far aft on g outs etc. Don't know about most riders but for me the feeling was instant when I added the Ti exhaust (that I got from cafe's Jake M) the rear was so much nicer even in side to side movements. As I said that along with the LiFe battery made the bike handle "that" much better. My 2011 TE310 is still right up there as the best most controlled handling bike I've ever owned (full boat/all the bells and whistles RaceTech suspension with ZipTy Racing service and updates on top of that helped too). PS I don't do aerobatics unless Im crashing!!

I get it, couldn't help poking a little fun. Trust me I know the advantage of removing the stock Fiat muffler from my 449 and switching to the TXC Akro. Huge difference I felt right away. That and an Earth X and I went from hoping I wouldn't hurt my back to being able to easily pick it up and put it on a stand

Guess I dont understand why a "long" silencer with there is a screw to adjust the p/v?

And if the silencer is seriously 4 lbs heavier there is no way i would use it.... tons more stress on subframe, weight really high plus leverage on rear suspension.... Not that big of a deal on Jarvis bike, for the most part he races and rides slow speed trials type stuff...

This is on the FMF page: Saw an article in Dirt Bike about a gayTM 300XC getting the full Stillwell treatment. It had this AND a new FMF Enduro Extreme pipe on it. Neither of which are actually on the FMF page yet.
