    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Anyone hot some feedback/thoughts on the JD Jetting Kit?

I'm fairly confident that the engineers at husky have half a brain about how to set up the stock jetting. That is, finding a fair balance between performance and fuel economy.

So in regard to the JD jetting kit, is this:
- A better operating system: i.e. the engineers at JD have spent more time and R&D and found a set of jets that work better.
- A power up kit, that Husky would have been aware of, but elected not to fit, as it reduced fuel economy, or some other element of the bike?

My particular use, is long distance cross country rallies, and although i would be grateful of any performance increase, i really do not want to sacrifice and fuel economy penalties to achieve this.

Husky engineers calibrated the jetting to meet EPA restrictions.
All carbureted bikes sold in the US, and other countries with emissions restrictions have to meet the specifications of those laws.

If you want the throttle response and tractability to be acceptable it is usually necessary to rejet, thus breaking those laws. If done well fuel economy will be minimally effected.
 
The jetting is also particular your elevation. the factory will jet the carb to sea elevation, the dealer will jet them to your area.

But the JD kit is a great way to dial in your bike. They really know what they are doing.

If you are doing cross country rallies, plan on making jetting adjustments anyway. The JD kit will help you know what to adjust and what elevation to do it at..

Yes he always answers my emails promptly.

Unlike Electrex world ignitions,3 emails in to weeks and no reply.

I have no complaints now. My bike runs excellent with the Leo Vince slip-on, JD jet kit, and iridium plug. Great support if you should have any jetting issues with their kit.
 
More than once I have tried numerous combinations of stock needles and jets on different bikes and finally bought the JD kit that did the trick.
Like has been said: "its the needle stupid", that ties it all together.
 
I went with this kit in my 06 SM610. Much better once I got it sorted out. Mine finally worked well when I adjusted the airscrew to about 1 turn vice 1.5. Blue needle middle clip with a 180 main and I forget the pilot I ended up with...

Also in my KTM 200 and 525, JD kits and jetted once and done. No issues, just good clean fueling.
 
Well, i've gone ahead and installed the kit.

What a difference !!
I'ts like a completely different bike.

The only issue is that I'm finding idling poor, and usually stalls after about 30 seconds of standing still (or in a situation where it would be best not to be!!)

In the JD instructions, it shows the screw, and says to wind in, then back out two complete turns. This may need to be adjusted.

Question is: "How to adjust the Screw?"

It's not a real easy place to access, and the only way i managed to 'Rotate' the carb, was to remove the airbox, and loosen misc cables etc.

Is there an easy way, or is this not the correct screw to be adjusting?
 
I put in a aftermarket screw. The FCR is used by KTM and other bikes also so the long knurled head fuel mixture screws are easy to find. Some are knurled, others are scalloped and mine has numbers on the head also. Makes it easy to turn in-place and track your position. Unmarked screws I put permanent marker lines on the head so I can easily see movement.
