  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

JD Tuner and FMF Powercore 4 on the TE511

I just installed the FMF Powercore 4 on my 12' TE 511. I have been running the JD Tuner with the stock exhaust for about 300 miles now with the recommended setting. My Question is, What have some of you found the optimal setting to be on the JD Tuner with the power core muffler, no quiet control insert, but I am running the spark arrest er. TE 511 004.jpg

FYI If your looking to Mod your bike, I really dig the CRG 2" Mini mirrors. The 3" may make a bigger picture, but I hardly notice the 2" ers. While not as big a picture print, there is NO vibration so what you do see is Clear. Also the Motosportz steering dampner is a MUST HAVE! I can cruze at 75 with one hand on the throttle and the other sitting in my lap! Before I couldn't go over 64 with out mean speed wobbles. While I'm at it here! The Seat Concepts Seat cover is also a MUST HAVE! Don't ask, just do it! if your crafty order it up. If your not, send them your seat and they will install it for you. I did it my self and it works Awesome! I just did a 130 mile ride in the big bear mountains, 1/2 single track, 1/4 fire trails, 1/4 street. Awesome ride. We were stopping to re -fuel and it hit me My Butt had 130 more!

Nice setup. Where did you order the mirrors and rear turn signals? Are they much smaller than stock?

thanks man, even stable bikes need some love. I find i can relax much more with my damper and concentrate on choosing a line rather than death grip and hope for the best.

I have three of these seats (511, 04 CR125, GG250) after buying one seat in 30 plus years of riding. Love them. Waiting for my TR650 seat to get made... great stuff. :thumbsup:

Love the 449/511 platform. Enjoy that great looking bike.

- As for the JD probably just need to go slightly richer.
 
For the mirrors I Googled CRG 2" Mini mirrors. a few options pop up. they are the 2" Vs. the 3" they call them bar end mirrors, but they fit perfectly where I put them on the stock bars. I can't find the receipt sorry I forget the web site I used, there are so many. The blinkers I picked up at the local bike shop. There were like 6 different LED options. I had to cut the wires and solider the factory clips on. But it looks slick! I just did a 130 mile ride, I didn't go down, so They aren't crash tested, but there were some hard rocky trails, and the blinkers didn't budge. My phone just died. Ill take a photo of stock Vs CRG mini's
 
Mr Motosportz, I'm guessing Kelly? Love what you guys are doing for the Husky's! Much props! The Dampner is a work of Art! It looks stock, and works like a charm, My buddy has the Scott! I asked him what Alien Farted on your Neck? I want to broker the deal you do with Husky!

The Mirrors are considerably smaller. the 3" may work better for some, but like I say with no vibration and a clear shot the 2" are simply there when you need them. Off road it's a Huge deal. The Stockers are an Accident waiting to happen in my book!
 
So I'm having trouble finding the programing chart that came with the JD. for the performance mode, where should the lights be?
 
My paperwork (JDHQX04 for TE 449/511) provides:

Race Exhaust: Green: 4/5, Yellow: 5/6, Red: 6/7, Green/Blue: 3, Yellow/Blue: 4, Red/Blue: 5.

Stock or Spark Arrestor Exhaust: Green: 3/4, Yellow: 4/5, Red: 5/6, Green/Blue: 3, Yellow/Blue: 4, Red/Blue: 5.

I wouldn't cruise 75 mph for too long ! I see your stock geared and rpm's are too high for long cruises even at 55mph IMHO...... I have a 45t rear sprocket and I would consider bike a 55 mph cruiser, barely :)
 
I noticed you have a zip tie around your bar clamp holding your lines out of the way, I'm guessing so you can read your speedo. Not good for your brake line and speedometer cable and brake cable guide, those need to be free moving. Brake cable has over 11" of movement.

I had a ziptie around my cables as well, but with the new flex bars in place, I can't see the speedo either way.
 
Love those mirrors. I'm ordering a set as soon as I'm done typing. I've never owned a stabilizer but you've got me
intrigued. Is it worth the money if you just ride trails? I don't think you can cruise 75 with stock gearing can you ?
I know...there's already been a zillion discussions about the rediculus CLOSE RATIO tranny's. We're stuck with it until
we re-gear it ourselves. Mind boggling to me that they don't address this. I'm a trail rider so 90% of the time I don't
get out of second but for the 10% of the time I do ds it, I would like to be able to cruise 75 on a mountain highway.
The JD Tuner is awesome and I would just go with the settings for aftermarket exhaust and maybe tinker a little if
needed but those settings seem to be right on.
I went with the cheapo Husky flexable blinkers and cut the connectors off the stock ones and soldered to new ones like
you did. Easiest way to do it.

Steering stabilizers are definitely a yes. Especially when run through some sort of crazy madness at high speed accidentally and think back to yourself how you even survived. I'm waiting to get my Scotts back which is starting to feel like eternity lol.
I recommend either Motorsportz if you want to set it and forget it (plus its cheaper), or Scotts which has a lot more settings, but you can set your high-speed to whatever you want.
 
Thx for the feed back Rearwheelin. So 75 is pushin it? It wouldn't do it stock, only after I added the JD tuner. What gearing should I run If I want to do 70 for 5-6 mile stretches, wide open trails and freeway jaunts, but keep some sort of low end for the single track trails? Am I asking too much out of this bike? The stock gearing revs out at 82 mph. It feels pretty good at 70 to me? but it is Revving a bit. Any one run a RPM gauge? Sounds like I need to keep it at 65? San Diego freeways roll 65-80 pretty standard. 70 is an ideal speed here, and in the desert too!

It rocks on the trails, It absorbs most of the shock that your arms generally would, Less to virtually no arm pump! It's a life saver when you side swipe a nice size (Anything) Stump, Rut, Rock, Log. The Motosportz one looks cool too! :notworthy: Thankz 2 Kelly! :oldman:

As too the Zip tie, I'd did put one loosely. I'm keeping an Eye on Binding and Line wear, so far no troubles?

I basically have the same engine upgrades as you and with the JD set to 8 on red I can only get 85 mph max speed and that is with a 45t rear sprocket ! Bike has plenty of power to pull 100 mph and now I'm starting to think the speedometer may work in conjunction with the ECM ? My gearing change just isn't adding up :( Depending on your definition of single track a really tall gearing simulare to mine but even taller will fit the bill for you. I would look for the smallest rear sprocket , maybe a 42t. Our bikes just don't do freeways well with the close ratio gearbox. They are awesome on trails :)
