Just picked up a 08' 250 TXC

I warmed it up - and it sounds nice. I just sold my KTM XCF to buy this bike.....

I have been through the forums trying to learn as much as possible. I'm sure I'll have questions.

I already started to melt the airbox - I thought that issue was only with TE models because of the cat pipe - but my XC has done it too. Looking forward to finding out what this bike can do. I ride mostly trails - and some desert stuff. Haven't done any enduros - but will probably start this season district 37

Had a question if these are green or red stickers in Cali? Mine didn't come with the spark insert - or manuals - I'm waiting for the paperwork from the owner (previous owner was from Colorado and it had 4 hours on it) like new- price was right..so had to jump on it. ($4k!)

The previous owner installed a couple of parts that I don't even know what they do. there is a fuel filter looking thing (but its not on the fuel delivery line - its after the carb) and there is a thumb screw under the carb that I think is for the air mixture maybe - no idea what it should be set at. I'm guessing the carb jetting is stock - haven't ridden it yet so not sure if that needs adjusting.

Anyone have the same bike and any insight to what I should do about the airbox issue and anything else you want to advise please shoot me an e mail or post up.

I can't wait to get out on my bike****************************************!

(BTW: I have owned 2 other Husky 450 SMR's but this is my first offroad version - and the old ones were 04' and 06' - so this bike is quite different)

The pipe can be fixed if you take it off and bend the mounting bracket on the pipe just a little to pull the pipe away from the air box. another way is heat tape but the bending is best. I have the 08 TE450 and the bikes are pretty much the same in the pipe route. 4K? man that is a good deal.

you have a carb vent filter on it. the vents suck dirt in the carb. this keeps the carb and valve train from eating fine dust, clean on a regular basis. there should be some info on a sticky for jetting this bike, here and on TT... enjoy the new ride.

Hey thanks for the replies. I was looking at the pipe and though about bending the tab at the mid point to get it away from the box - I'm able to just pull on the pipe and I can see it move away - so I'll do that first. The heat wrap to me looks bad - and I'd rather bend it first. (also the box is now melted so not sure how anything will stick to the plastic.

As for the vent filter - thanks...I couldn't figure that out.

I was trying to get the bike running a little better tonight - messed with the air screw, ran best at about 1.5 turns out from all the way in. Again, I don't know what the jetting is - but it rips on top, but bogs a little on bottom. And it pops on deceleration - but I think most all 4 strokes so that.

If anyone has some better settings for me to try post em' up.

It feels a bit heavier than my KTM did, but only...just.

Nice bike. Can't help you on the carb, my TE is FI and I hate trying to talk carb over the internet. Much easier and better to do in person. I see it already has the Uptite skid plate, check to see if it has the Y cross over pipe also for better cooling. Again, that is a nice bike, congrats and welcome.

Tear carb apart and figure out what is in there - esp the AP settings (leakjet size & AP distance)

My guess would be 42 pilot 2.5 turns out or a 45 pilot 1.5 turns out would get it close for so cal this time of year. Not sure what taper needle those came with or what clip position, many TE people have JD kits (I do).

Leak jet in the 55 to 70 range & AP arm distance - 2.5mm to 3.00mm would work ok. Be sure the AP is not disabled some how.

Husky has a different set of pipe grommets which will move your pipe awat from the air box. It was a late update that came with the heat shields.

mark the spot you need to bend of the pipe with chalk , heat up the pipe to glow slightly red then get a big set of vice grips and making sure you put some steel on the outside first bend the inside by clamping with the vice grips , job done . then repair the damage to the airbox ,mine was replaced under warranty . i also used the new pipe rubber grommets there just tougher so they dont flex as much and allow the pipe to hit your airbox, an exhaust shop can do that for you , i took the bike in and showed them what i wanted to do , make sure you don't let the oxy change the grain in the pipe but having it set too oxygen rich , you can tell the pipe will go red then the grain will start to crystalize ,dont let it get to hot won't take much heat .take the pipe off to heat it etc and make sure you hold the pipe in about the same rotation as if its sitting in the frame otherwise the bend will be in the right place but wrong plane.

I had to go to the ABYC for dinner and then Mahai in Seal beach for a birthday party that night before getting home to San Diego.

I got the bike out this past weekend up at McCaine valley and it definitely needs something done to the jetting. I found that it was bogging a bit down low - seems rich to me, need to pull the carb off and find some new jets - and possibly lower the needle. The top end felt good. Bike always started and ran at idle fine, but didn't have the mumbo I was looking for down low.

I fixed the pipe by tweaking the tabs and I put some heat shield type tape on the corner of the box...its fine. (there is a small hole now from the pipe, but I highly doubt that Husky would give me anything on warranty as the bike is a year old already (I don't even think that there is a warranty on this bike as I'm the second owner)

One issue I had though was the rear sprocket bolts backed off - one even fell out completely and scratched the swing arm...so not too happy about that fact - I will call my local shop today (they were closed on Monday) and see if the have something a bit longer - they are just to the edge f the nuts - and I don't think fully engaging the locking portion...Husky really screwed up there.
The rear brake line rubbing the case thing I noticed too - but I tweaked the line inward a touch and now it clears - so no worries. I just took a bit of preload of the rear last night after measuring - I don't have a manual but I've always run the same 100mm and 35mm on my KTM so went with that on this bike.

There was practically no rebound dampening - so turned that in 10 turns, tow the front and rear are pretty similar.

Bike needs to loosen up - felt tight, but from everything I've read I think its normal.

I have to admit though, the bike is not 100% meeting my expectations, and I feel a little let down so far, but hopefully it will improve with a bit of jetting improvement. Also it feels slightly heavier than my old KTM, not buyers remorse but just not really stoked. I just need to try it again this weekend and see what happens.

I had a similar issue with the jetting on my '07 Te 250 which is same motor and carb. I use the blue needle out of the JD Jetting kit with the clip in the 5th slot down from the top. I also went leaner on the pilot jet to a 38 or 40 depending on the temp. 2 turns out on the fuel screw. I thought the bog was because of being too rich but it wasn't. The leaner I went the worse it got, after I switched to the Blue needle things greatly improved.
