• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

L/C 430 right crank bearing

One of the service bulletin's in the vintage tech. section listed it as one of the modifications along with raising the exhaust port in the cyl. to CR specs for more HP. Look up the tech section & scroll through the stuff for these years bikes. There are diagrams of the porting.

OK, I searched the service bulletins for a 430 porting reference.

I only found a March '82 bulletin #8-097, page 130 of the 8-service_bulletins.pdf file on this Cafe H page, "8-001 to 8-149 bulletins":

So this performance mod, a 4.5mm more opening on piston was still good for a '88 430?

Yes, from what I've learned on here. There are others on here that have done this as well. I am not the first by any means. I also did a little on the cyl. intake but not as much as in the diagram. Glad you found it. The bike shreds the back tire loose even easier than before and pulls harder at the top end. :D

Cool. I'll have to try the porting for my 430.
The bulletin mentions other mods. Did you do those?
Like the exhaust pipe mod? I wonder how that changes the power band?

No, I already had an Uptite racing pipe so I didn't change that. I raised the exhaust port, smoothed out the exh. port with a sanding flap wheel, "winged" the intake ports a little. knife edged the center web in the intake, cleaned up & knife edged the divider in the transfer ports & trimmed the cyl. base gasket so it didn't hang over the edge & protrude into the transfer ports. I also raised the ports in the piston.
