  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

large amounts of oil in air box te 510

1200mls,1400mls,1600mls,1700mls??? in australian measurments i should use which quantity for a full filter and oil service???

on most other 4 strokes i have owned I just ran the hose up under the tank with either a little filter or a little nipple thing thats on the bottom of the air box...always seems good...

on my 250 i just tipped over on a hill....to the right...maybe a 45 degree angle....I didnt even notice it until I got back to the truck...then I new it was a blown shock or air out of the motor...I think they do it for emmisions...pretty dumb idea...

Why they vent to the air tube is to ensure you have free flow and clean dry air venting to the crankcase. KTM and many do the same. Once in a while if you fall to the right side some oil will make it to the air tube. I fall on occasion and my air filter has never gotten motor oil on it. It has never drained out the air box. there is a small dent in the air box where this oil seems to get trapped . I clean it out with every air filter cleaning/change- seems to hold a couple tablespoons full. My level has never been down. For me its a non issue.

It's worse on the new 250. it only holds 900cc's so if 200ccs end up in the airbox your left with 700ccs at an oil change.

All of you should know by now, that oil always looks like its more than it is. Im sure the oil that comes out into the airbox isnt enough to cause any trouble. If you have allot of falls on a ride just be sure to top off the case useing the site glass for a reference. George says it doesnt hurt the engine so im not going to change it.

Some people add oil to there fuel to help the engine lubercate so oil in the airbox isnt a big deal. Just makes a mess thats all.

Well just drained my oil...measured it....I put in 1200ml as per the manual....I drained out 966ml's...now if you dont think that is bad I beg to differ...234ml's is more than i want to loose so I am headed to find a check valve and some hose to run it up under my tank...

I wouldnt be worried so much if it wasnt such a slight tip over and for only 3 seconds max....

just wait til you see the faces of the guys with you when you crash and the bike gets upended then you rcover and take off and all that oil burns of in combustion, it makes a great big smoke screen for the guys that caught up to you after the crash!!

Your saying you lost 234ml's with the bike on its side for 3 secs? Ive dropped mine way more than that on many rides and Its never even low on the sight glass.

234ml's would almost take it below the sight glass. :excuseme:

The airflow through that vent line is 2-way. Why wouldn't it be routed into the filtered side? Sure, you can make your own line to dangle in the airbox and it may delay the tiny amount of oil that can make its way up that line. The new x-lite txc 250's use the frame as part of the circuit for the vent now. Limits the leakage much better. So far ;)

my 250 doesnt have a sight glass....

ioneaster...thats a good idea...the one reason I was thinking of going up was to make it harder for the oil to come out unless you are completely upside down....where on the frame is the txc vent?

i guess I lost more cause I was on a pretty steep hill....was sliding backwards...bumped another guy who was stuck then tipped over into him...I didnt even fall...and really the bike never even hit the ground......it was tipped into his bike that was fallen...with my foot on his tank and one on my footpeg...i just picked it up slid around headed down and started it on the way down...
