  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Let's see pictures of your new FE501

Please fill me in. Is this husqvarna 501 the 501 berg engine?

I'm interested in a dual sport but I want to feel something when I wick it. How much horsepower is it?

It is the same engine used in the 2012 501 Berg, which is a KTM 510cc engine. It produces around 60hp and will ruin your shorts if you wick it too hard.

Nice

From all nine days of riding which routes did you prefer and why? Any other new Husky's at the rally or was yours the only shining star?

Favorite route was the Bayfield run by far. No other new huskies but there was one TE510. Mostly DRZ400's and KTM's with a few WR250r's mixed in.

Here my 15' FE501. Bought it new today; had the dealer install the Euro map will break it in tomorrow out in Johnson Valley; 1 hour then an oil change and some more riding.

Nice bike. Mine ran hot until it was broke in so don't be surprised if the fan runs if you are riding tight trails under 30mph. Enjoy her she's a keeper.

Update. still working on getting it broke in for first hour then drop oil blah blah blah. so far it rips.

Little custom touch to make it my own

Looking forward to riding with friends who just picked up a 2015 KTM 500 XC-w and a 2015 KTM 690. I'll post up videos like we used to do on the Yamaha WR250R's.

Have you posted any videos? :)

I picked up an FE501S and installed the same pipe as you with the mega bomb and it sounds awesome!!! Dealer flashed it with the OPEN map and it does not overheat.

I have the mega bomb header but haven't installed it yet. Heres the first of many videos to come. Put up so pictures of your 501s

I'll start out a new thread for posting pictures. Here's mine, picked it up today and sold my 2012 TE310 today. I'm over whelmed right now and trying to take it all in and process it. Guess my riding gear isn't going to match;)

That's easy to answer. I love this bike for single track. To give some perspective, I'm ahead of the curve in the size department. 6'4" @ 225 LBS before gear. The 310 was very disappointing in the torque department. It just couldn't loft the front wheel off idle when it matters in the tight stuff. I fought flame outs so I sprung for a rekluse, helped but still missed the torque. For me the 310 tired me out in single track. The 501 is effortless for me in the tight stuff and the smooth electric like power delivery is reliable and this bike steers better, almost like esp. I just look where I want to go and it happens. I never had that with the 310. For my size and Personality the 501 is a much better fit. I almost bought a 511 which would have been good too. If you're a bigger guy you won't regret a 501. I'm running 13/49 gearing, works good for me. Euro flash and trailtech map switch.

Edit. Imho if you weigh less than 185ish, the 310 is plenty of bike and will have a good amount torque but if you're a goon like me not so much.

"Bill is the man".

Just through down on a great deal today with "Bills Motorcycles Plus" for a new 2015 FE 501 myself. He's shipping it to me ready to go to South East, Arizona from his shop in Oregon. Even after shipping all the way here, I'll still be able to save a bundle from what it would have cost me had I purchased here in state or locally in Tucson, AZ. Un-Fricken believable. How some dealers can add nearly $1600 to $1800 or more to the price of a bike is beyond me.

Bike will be Pre-prepped when it arrives with proper rate fork springs and shock spring, radiator guards etc. for my fat ass 245 lbs. plus the weight of all my riding gear and tool pouches etc. I normally carry.

So I should also have him re-flash the ECU to the Euro Map for now ? PC5 will be going on later. For now I'll be installing a new full exhaust system right out of the gate and the rest of the shopping list is going to be fun and expensive.

Can't wait.

That's too cool BT ... Looks like you will be around the Husky cafe, maybe, forever?

Both bikes (250cc 2ts) I purchased from BMP were a slam-dunk really ... As for your local prices, some like their bread buttered on both sides ...

Great buy!
If it's not an S model but the full fat creamy butter version the euro map fixes it, no need for a PCV.
If you want more power that trailtech map switch on the handlebars gives you 3 maps. Smooth, standard and yeah baby!
