  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Loose fit cam drive sprocket

macwood

Husqvarna
B Class
TXC 250 when I pulled down engine to replace failed main bearing I found the cam chain drive sprocket on the crank was only a push on fit by hand and held in position by a spring behind the flywheel with a woodruff key to lock it to crankshaft. The woodruff key was worn from constant movement because of the loose fit eventually it would have let go (look out valves) manual show to hit sprocket on with a drift???
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Is the sprocket loose fitting on the shaft without the key? If so, take a measurement of the crankshaft where the sprocket sits and also the I.D of the sprocket. Compare to another bike. Someone else might be able to measure theirs to help ya. If not I could pull mine apart and measure for ya.

Chances are you'll have to replace the sprocket and key

Hi J.R thanks for the reply
yes it is loose without key, I havent got accurate measuring gear so may have to take somewhere but I was hoping to hear from other members that they all had to use a puller to get there sprocket off and mine was the only loose one. hope its not the crank that is undersize if anything. If it was ment to be tight (which I think it is ) whats the spring on there for?? Also if it was tight then the key wouldnt wear.
Thanks heaps for the offer to pull yours off and measure, I'm impressed but hold fire yet and we will see what info turns up.

Yes its supposed to be tight fitting, I didn't pull mine yet cuz I didn't hear from ya, but it would have taken a puller to get it off. I think the spring is just for insurance. Let me know if ya need me to pull mine.

I imagine your sprocket and key wore rather than the crank. Do you have a way to accurately measure yours? (a set of measuring calipers of your own or someone else's to borrow) try giving hall's cycle or Motosportz a call, they may have a new sprocket laying around to get some comparative measurements
