  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Lousy Gasoline woes

If you can't get 'Super unleaded' as we call it here, would lowering the compression not sort out the problem?
Like fitting a bigger/thicker gasket?
Just a thought...
Over to the experts...

Brock :excuseme:

You could. Best bet is to find a consistent supply of quality fuel.

Thicker gaskets or shims are not the right way if they are sacrificing quench spaces. The right way is to machine the piston crown for extra volume.

BTW, I wasn't kidding with the fuel blending. 95 & 98 RON is really uncommon (outside of the major towns) where I live, but aviation fuels can be found almost anywhere. Fortunately none of the available fuels are blended with ethanol. Some stations run a blend of 91RON/100LL, Diesel/100LL or JetA-1/100LL through their bikes.

Scott Summers machined his TXC510 piston to lower compression and get more torque I seem to remember... made it more XR'ish :)
The good ole XR600 was designed to run on any old shite found in Baja from what I remember.
:D

george at uptite has a tremendous knowledge of fuels and what our husky needs to stay alive. perhaps he will chime in on this.:thumbsup:

Saw a new 5 gal can of Sunoco 112 Leaded in his shop last week.

If I had a 4 stroke I would make sure to get leaded fuel in it if it was available. Your valves and valve seats will thank you with longevity, especially your exhaust valves.
