  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

magura hydraulic clutch to standard

1kstep

Husqvarna
AA Class
anyone out there in Huskyland thinks the hydraulic clutch sucks? and what did you do to replace it?

Not really ... I had to replace the oh-ring in the slave cylinder at about ~20 hrs and after > 300 hrs, no more issues ...

Juice clutches are a little weird as you don't really get the same 'feel' of the clutch action as you do with a cable ... This does make feathering it a little hard to get perfect ... From day 1, on every ride all day long ...the clutch feel never changes ...

I felt it was harder to modulate the '06 TE hydraulic clutches compared to a cable. Seemed more on/off in the tight stuff. I have not had a problem since the '06 though. You might want to try 7602's fix for it and see if that helps. I had a '08 and never had a problem with the clutch personally.

I love hydro clutches. More consistent. Change the fluid and keep it bled, no worries. The seals on the piston are usually the "wear" part and most have an aftermarket solution that is superior to stock, but I have only ever changed out seals or the slave all together on my street/litre bikes. All of my dirt bikes have run with the stockers with no issues.

I would love to be able to convert to a cable clutch. That way I could use the Rekluse lefthand brake and keep the clutch also.

How would that work? I don't 'get' it. You'd have two levers right? So couldn't you conceivably use any combination of the two systems?

love hate for me, when its working and not leaking from the slave or master I love it for its consistant feel especially in the technical stuff.
But the thing has almost cost me a non-finish(never dnf) in a Nat Hare hound (had to refill between each loop thankfully it lasted through the last ugly technical loop) and it did cost me a 40 class P1 in local Mex Hare Scramble.
I am pissed at Magura, having worked on and around 3000psi aircraft systems there is no way a basic system like this one should ever leak, IMHO not the greatest engineering from the German company. PS even when I put an entire new master on there is still some weepage around the piston at the master, this is unsat.

I've wondered if the Master from the system that Gas Gas uses could be fitted.
Gas Gas has the lightest stock clutch pull of any bike I've tried.......
Also, I believe Zip-Ty makes a billet slave for these bikes.

Personally, I haven't had too many troubles with my Maguras & I certainly am not interested in going back 40 years to a cable clutch........

the master of the TXC450 is 9.5 mm just for info. They do make other other cyl piston sizes. I think KTMs use 10.5 as their standard and I think the slave piston is the same dia as the Husky slave.

Just had a customer call looking for the diameter of our slave piston as he was interested in installing one in his KTM. Two different diameters so it wouldn't work. Can't remember which model KTM.

PS 7602 slave piston in the Magura OEM slave cylinder is the bullet proof set up so far.

Also when having issues carefully inspect both the master and slave inner cylinder surfaces. My original master had the plating bubbling up and flaking off, which tore up the piston seal.

I also am not a fan of the hydro clutch on this bike. On my SMR, I can't get a good feel for the clutch when trying to slide it in the corners....it was much easier to modulate a cabled clutch in my opinion.

Yep...that is sort of what I was saying above about the feel of this clutch ... It works and feels the exact same all day long but I can't really feel the clutching action starting to happen as I'm feathering it or I don't really get any feedback (through the lever) that the clutch really slipping when it is being feathered ... Maybe all juice clutches are like this?

I guess I am very used to Hydro clutches -Magura. Works the same on my husky as it did on my ktm... Consistant smooth predictable. I have never had my magura go flat or loose presure on either bike. No problems whatsoever- I back bleed and change fluid once in a while when I feel like it in my garage- guess that's sufficiant. I never use magura blood- just because its nothing special: I have used fork oil or ATF- (never use brake bluid in Maguras) If you have a Magura- have a "feed store" plastic syringe and a length of rubber hose in your tool box. Doesn't have to be bled often but it should be maintained about the same as your brake system.

As far as "feeling" clutch engagement- I have never thought about. I but I don't think I feel it through the clutch lever- I think its a combination of things that goes on unconciously: rpms, sound of the motor, feeling bike move forward, tire hook up, front end rise... all of which changes constantly. This is evident climbing a nasty hill with loose traction and trail trash and rocks / stumps/ ledges- keeping rpms up and not loosing too much momentum. Gaining perfect traction and loosing traction variably while trying to maintain momemtum and not looping it out at the same time. not something I think about on the trail - just happens (or not)

My slave cylinder wore out, although it lasted six trouble free years so I have no complaints. I did upgrade to the 7602 piston and a name brand slave cylinder. The slave leaked right off the bat, so I'm waiting to hear about a replacement. I cleaned up the old one, installed the 7602 piston and it's holding great. The o-ring will wear out over time however because of the wear marks on the barrel.
How many clutch cables would a person have to replace in 6 years?

that was me. you should make one!! thwy are close but will not work. i will replace mine on my 07 510smr though soon.
that piston for my ktm is only for the 200's the 250 and 300's use a brembo master with a different slave. the bikes 200 and smaller use the magura slave.
so ktm 200 2 stroke 9.5 magura/slave
ktm 150 and down to 105 magura 9.0/ different slave
ktm 250/300 brembo 10.5 /brembo slave
