• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

MCCT install tips

I'm changing out the ACCT for an APE MCCT this evening and wanted tips for the install. Seems I've heard to remove the center bolt/spring so as to preserve the last position on the shaft. When I install the new MCCT do I go back to the same shoulder-to-shoulder distance and work from there? Any other tips?

Thanks in advance

Just did this a week or so ago. I measured the distance on
the auto and set the manual the same.

Some adjust to a lesser distance and adjust in by engine sound.

Mine is fine.

If I was going to use the ACCT exposed length, I would remove the ACCT then reinstall so it has to reset itself. Turn the engine over or even start it and run it a little bit. Then remove it and take your measurement.
That way you know you aren't using a measurement from the adjuster when it has over adjusted itself.
I think that the ACCT sometimes over adjusts, or jumps a notch during chain whiplash or some other event. If you take your measurement after removing the adjuster, it could be in such a state of over adjustment. If it is, it will be OK, but you could be defeating the idea of the ACCT until the chain stretches or wears in to the tighter adjustment. IMO

Darn good point! I had my bike semi-apart, mid pipe off. So while I was
there I adjusted mine out just a bit, sounded the same on start-up.

Also, I wonder how much the chain slacks when hot as apposed to cool?

I've done around 15k on my current chain with a MCCT. I think the chain likes to be on the tight side. Before I figured that out, I backed out the chain one time after removing the left side cover to inspect. The motor eventually gave some weird misfires.

Eventually or most likely you're going to have to make an adjustment without the ACCT as a reference. I don't try and get rid of all the noise, not going to happen. You could probably make the adjustment at oil changes if you don't let them go too long.
