  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Mikuni 36mm conversion on a 74 250 CR Mag

Panerai

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hello all, recently picked up this 250 CR Mag. I'm in the process of going thru it to get it running (it has been sitting for 15+ years). I want to put a Mikuni carb on it. My question is, will the same throttle cable work that the Bing uses or do I need a different one.. My inquiries so far from other sources have been mixed. Thanks in advance.

The required length of cable from the Bing cable-slack adjuster to the slide cable-slot is about 10mm longer than the Mikuni VM38. I don't have a VM36 to compare, if you're intending to use a 36, but the 38 is only 2mm taller overall which probably doesn't affect the slide to cap distance. You may be able to take up the 10mm of slack with the cable adjuster on the carb and the twist throttle. If funds are tight, I've had excellent results shortening the cable. Requires a propane torch, solder, flux, a 1/2" pipe cap as a solder reservoir, and a new ferrule.

Between the 36mm Bing and a 36mm Mikuni - measured an 8mm (inner) cable difference. Notice the height difference between the two carbs.

It looks from your picture that the bike has the original Magura 307 'Trap-Door' throttle (is that right?) - if so there is no adjustment at the throttle.

The original adjuster on top of the Mikuni carb only allows for about 5mm adjustment. There are longer aftermarket adjusters available (pic attached) - though not ever having used one, not sure how much extra long it is.

I realize everyone has their preferences, and I will respect that - why do you want to go with a Mikuni? As you can see I have both and have used Amal, Keihin, Delorto and others carbs and am always open to learning peoples experiences with different carbs.
