  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Mini 6 on a XC500

Help a newbie here....will a Motoplat Mini 6 flywheel/stator combination fit (and work correctly) on my '83 XC500 2 stroke monster? Mine currently has an internal rotor Motoplat and I'm thinking of going to an external rotor setup...which I believe was stock?

The mini 6 external rotor is a GREAT swap for that bike, but you have to get one with the correct taper on the flywheel so that it matches your crank.

Thanks for the info...I figured that may be the case. Now, if only I knew how to determine what the proper taper is? When buying something sight-unseen, who knows if the taper will be right or not? A few hundred bucks here, a few hundred there...and a bunch of unusable parts on the shelf. As a reference point, are there any particular bikes that these mini 6's normally come with, that may have the correct shaft taper I'm going to need?
Again, I thought my '83 was supposed to have the external, but turns out not to be true (or someone swapped it out years ago).
I appreciate whatever info can be shared, to save me from trial and error (it's the error part that tends to drag a person down). Thanks.

part # ?

Is there a part # on the flywheel that can be seen without removing it? If so I would pop the cover on my 84 xc500 and get the number off it. I am going to pick it up this weekend.
