    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Motosportz Skid Plate (with Wings) Compatibility with Crash Bars

I've got the full Motosportz Skid Plate with the extension. I love it, it is spectacular at keeping my frame and motor free of the gravel damage that comes with the fire roads I ride.

I would like to put on some crash bars and I was wondering if anyone was running this skid plate setup with the crash bars that are out there. I was mostly looking at the SW-Motech ones, with the AltRider bars as an alternate. I've looked at pictures of both and I think there should be clearance, but I'll defer to personal knowledge if it's out there.

I know that Kelly said the wings can easily be trimmed to fit, but I'd rather not go cutting into things if I don't need to.
 
Thanks for posting this. I'd like to know which ones work too so I can recommend something compatible.
 
I have the ALTRider crash bars, and the Motosportz skid plate with wings.

While I could have cut notches in the wings to accommodate the crash bars, I found it easier to cut some of the top off.... 1.5"? 2"?

In addition, because of my incredibly unique situation where I need to keep installing/removing things like that skid plate, I went ahead and drilled 2 large holes on the left hand side so the bolts could be more easily accessed.

I can say with full confidence that the wings make a *huge* difference in a good way in the rock protection department. Riding down gravel roads I keep hearing ding ding ding, about like a pinball machine.

I was pleasantly surprised the plate or front protector did not make the bike louder but if you are not liking the ding ding noise you might try deadening it with some foam between the front plate and downtube.

The sound of the rocks hitting that does not bother me at all, in fact it is a constant reminder how glad I have your product which causes the rocks to hit the 'wings' instead of my engine/down tube or whatever else it would otherwise hit. I'm reasonably sure that other skid plates have some rather large holes to let the smaller rocks through.

When designing that front deflector I just made it full coverage and no holes. You cant please everyone and I figured you could cut it down and drill holes if you like. Gives you options.

I do like that.

I noticed my 'wings' was getting beat up a bit from the rocks, then I noticed the down tube on my bike had previously been beaten up. Rocks are nasty.
 
I have the SW Mototech ones and it won't work without trimming. Will be doing here shortly and can give an idea as to how much needs cut..
