• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Need help...TC 250 or TE 250

HarleySteve

Husqvarna
B Class
My ride style is for off road mainly, very little track if any. That tells you to pick the TE. The problem is I ride very fast (in my mind lol) and am always on the pipe and would be concerned the the wide ration of the TE might bug me. I have always picked MC versions over the years (SX 250, KX 450...ect.) and never had any issues/complaints trail riding those machines. That being said I have never owned a bike set up from the factory out of the box for me to compare my experiences with. I could buy the TE and wonder why I punished myself with motocross versions over the years.
My hope on this thread is to find people that have gone from MX to Enduro bike, and was it a smart move, or do you wish you stayed with MX converted to Woods for the extra speed the MX will give you?

PS. I really like the electric start of the TE

I did the same as you for 30+ years and thought I was fast in the woods, too. Then one day I swapped my 520SX with my buddies 400EXC that had full on suspension setup for the northeast woods. The first lap I turned on our private 5mi loop was significantly faster than my fastest lap ever on the 520. And that was with no time getting used to his bike before taking off. I was pretty shocked since the 400 was not nearly as fast as my 520, and after doing 5 laps flat out I realized I was nowhere near as tired either. It was then I finally got smart and realized hey I ride the woods 90% of the time maybe I should get an enduro bike. Duh!

I couldn't bare to part with my beloved 520 at the time, but a few weeks later I had a brand new 450EXC setting in my garage beside it with the suspension sent off to Factory Connection. The only thing I changed from his setup (besides the displacement) was more bottoming resistance as I still wanted to play on tracks and hit jumps. His suspension absolutely soaked up everything you slammed into, but it bottomed hard when landing from big air. (we both weighed about the same thing, too).

It's all about the rider anyway. For me having a purpose-built machine with the right power delivery and suspension helped me be faster and faster longer where I ride 90% of the time. It was certainly the right move for me. Right for you who knows. KTM still makes the 250/300 XCs. Aren't they somewhat in between? Not steering you orange, but something to think about.

Forget orange. The tc and Te have the same frame anyway I believe. Both could benifit from a revalve and the tc for sure needs it in the woods. My 15 tc with 9 oz flywheel weight o ring chain and 50 tooth rear sprocket just plain hauls and pulls extremely well with no bizzare gaps in the gearing. I was railing in third on some single track the other day when I realized how much this engine clutch and tranny work together. I also put the Te tank. Keep in mind I believe the tc is 14-17 pounds lighter then the Te which means a lot to myself. I've owned many moto and enduro bikes and like both. Just plan on the 1000 or so you save on the tc going back into the bike for improvements. I don't want estart or 17 pounds so a Te us out for me. 19 inch rear wheel some whine about I have never noticed a difference myself. The forks probably need redone on either bike but how much you spend depends on how far you read into the many pages of hoopla....a 150$ standard revalve feels pretty decent to me and o am a fairly fast a rider. On a super long straight or fire road I miss the gas gas six speed or the fond memories of my dad clocking me a 90+ on a 93 husky 6 speed 250. Simple for me. Moto bike. Bigger tank flywheel weight revalved front and rear and a big noticeable weigjt savings! Unless you need estart and a way to get around in the dark!!

Thanks guys. All opinions are spot on, so thanks for taking the time. I think I'm with Fletch and Hanson and will put a few extra bucks into the TC. Love the thought of 17 LBS less and really dont need to get around in the dark lol.

Originally I thought my Tm had more power then my tc but after riding last weekend I am not so sure. The tc seemed to be railing me around in third gear when I may have been in second on the Tm.. I was super impressed with the motor......and other things....since I modified my rear brake pedal to be a 1/2 inch lower I don't seem to be having problems like before.... I did order the rear brake resivour extender and will swap to mogul brake fluid for next weekend....

I've got a KTM 250xc and (as someone pointed out ) this is a great compromise between the Enduro and mx lines. Unless you're riding 90% tight and technical, this would be the way to go.

TE, already has big tank and estart is worth the extra money. :)
Take the headlight off and buy an earthx battery and you probably would drop 10 pounds ;)

Ten pounds??? I would guess more like 4 pounds....but I'm just guessing.....you could buy and xcw but fact is it is orange.....looking like composite (plastic) subframe will be gone for 16....at least on tc fc

I had a lot to say but saw you want an estart .. Buy what ever bike has that device. Just to really cloud the issue though, you might wanna read some the threads on the forks of the new bikes ... As far as I know, nobody admits to riding an out-of-the-box stock bike here but me and I ride the ITL Huskies. It is a time-proven sales pitch though ... When I purchased my '76 CR250 Husky, about same thing was said about it.

Good luck with your bike and trail riding Mr. Harley .... When I rode my harley and then got on my 02 CR250 Husky, it felt like riding a toothpick... I like to own MX model bikes. They should be the most bada$$ bike of the brand and other models are based from it.

One other thing, lots squawk over transmission gearing ... You might wanna check that part of the bikes ..

I have had the opportunity to try several different setups of KTM, with the Husky,I am still experimenting.I have always ridden the KTM sx.I loved the close ratio tranny for the woods. You always seem to be in the right gear compared to the 6-speed tranny.I thought purchacing the 15 Te 300 would solve some of the suspension issues of the SX after reading about them, and it did, perfect right out of the box woods ready suspension.Probably the best since my 2000 KTM 380 Mxc.However,,,,,the 300 is ported in a way that defies re-jetting for more power.I have had my guru's look high and low for more power.DENIED.KTM apparently wants things left alone with the TE's.
Luckily I have several TC250's,what a great bike they have made with this model. The motor chugs like there is no tomorrow.Pulls to the very limit in each gear, and only needs a suspension re-valve to be the best woods 2T I have ever had the pleasure to ride.Period.
I re-jetted the 250 to 35 pilot,170 main.NECH needle 4th position, for 2500' elevations, seems best so far.The ergonomics are perfect vs the SX too.Seems it sets sort of in the middle between track and woods. With the mapping switch, and Rekluse,it is a weapon.

You want your TE to go faster and the motor to pull and rew to the moon yet still lug down low and not miss a beat. Then time to call Ty at Zip Ty Racing. Ty has a young rider on a TE 250 at the National and a TE 300 at WORC Dalton is his name and he has won every National this year
He rides the 250 pro class at the nationals and wins plus finishes top 5 overall against the best open class pro bike. Ty reworks the carb and the cylinder along with a few other things The bike flat works He could ride a TC but the reworked TE is winning the pro 250 class
I have lined up to him a few times and watched his dust off the start can you say gone

Just a side note my old Italian Husky WR 250 and 300 use to be a Zip Ty Race bikes The bike might be a few years old but is so dialed in and still works great. I am getting a worked over Zip Ty Racing TE 300 before the start of the next year. Once dialed in I just change oil and clean air filter and ride Never have to work on set up once a pro does the original set up

Ty has a saying YOU CAN NOT FAKE FAST

Tc is awesome in the woods I seem to be faster leaving the darn thing in third its crazy dam thing seems to pull like a 300!!! Chugs down to nothing almost a stop and with clutch snaps to attention all while leaving the bike in third gear.....less tiring that way also...light nimble fast and with a steering dampner rubber submount and a low $$$ revalve have not noticed any problems...dare I say better then a red 250/300 and every bit as good as and xlight chassis (besides the KTM jokes)

I personally like the wide ratio tranny.... less changing gears....

Dont jet for power jet it to run clean adjust the powervalve and/or change the head for power.... even change the gearing

TC can be a good bike to....

Question for those that run their tc 250 in the woods. I have recently started to ride more off road then track, but when I ride woods, the plug is black and oil leaks from my silencer. what jetting changes did you make for the different type of riding?
